My first thought with the RS18 was also the proprietary lube strips. This confirmed my worries on that aspect of the razor.

Big Grin

The reason they're closing has nothing to do with lack of sales. I find it a bit comical that the only people who are complaining about the company and their products, are those who have never actually used them.

Not complaining, just pointing out the reasons why I have zero interest in even trying one. What I think is comical is this viewpoint that I'm not allowed to express my opinion on a product that I haven't used. I stated nothing about the performance of the razor because I don't care how it shaves. Everything about the company and it's website turns me off before I even get to that point and I'm allowed to say so. I don't need to use the razor to express that opinion. It's not like after I shave with it and I like the result, all of that other stuff that I don't like magically disappears. So stop saying that, it doesn't make any sense.

Welcome to the club Jeff. I was given some grief because I didn’t seem to see a $360 being “mainstream”. With no reasons given, we’re going to sit around and speculate. It’s what humans do.

I had no desire to buy the razors. I was not impressed with the price or the fancy box. However, I was impressed with the nearly 100% positive reviews on shaving forums - both on the razor and customer service.

Wishing Avi the best of luck in the future.

Absolutely. I also thought that the customer service and buying experience were top notch. I was hoping to buy one without the fancy packaging for 30 to 40 percent off eventually.

The razor is simply awesome. Better than any high end razors I have tried.

Avis is an awesome guy to deal with.

The shut down of his business - nothing to do with demand or lack of sales.

Remember - man/woman’s true character comes out when they are dealing with someone who is on his knees/knocked down in this cruel world.

For those who want the cold hard truth regarding the traditional wet shaving market I cannot recommend enough that you read the linked thread from another forum where Brad Maggard answers a host of questions regarding this. The good, the bad & the ugly:

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

Thanks for that. Very educational. Also, confirms some of what we find in the market.

Very high reviews for this razor. Price not out of line compared to many stainless steel offerings. Never good for the shaving community when this happens. Marketing was very slick from the onset. We'll know more when the owner wants to speak out. Till then cut the company some slack. There's no use making assumptions on facts that are unfounded. Opinions always welcome, but it's never good when a small business packs up their kit.

Price in line with others? The RS-10 is $325 and the RS-18 is $375. The ATT Kronos is $148 ($227 less than RS-18), the ATT Windsor is $210 ($165 less than RS-18). Blackbird is $185 ($190 less than RS-18) and the dart ($276!! less than RS-18). Timeless SS $185 ($190 less than RS-18) and titanium $225 ($150 less than RS-18). You can get 2 to 3 razors (or 4 darts) for the price of one RS-18. Wolfman appears to be the same price of the RS-18.

Please dont take this as being antagonistic. Just putting math into the "price in line with others" comments I have seen.
