Rate Your Soap Performance

So, some folks over at reddit are doing a survey to figure out how do we rate some of the known soap brands.

You may find some (or a lot I should say) brands are missing, maybe we can do a poll on those later.

But among the ones listed, how would you rate?

• Please Do Not Consider Scent. I know scent matters a lot, but the purpose of the poll is different.
  

• Also, please try to discard your feelings towards the Artisan/Vendor.

There were a lot of Artisan soap makers in the survey, which I don’t really care for. I can count on one hand the Artisan soaps that I enjoy using so I guess the traditional established soap makers are more to my liking. Must be something to do with my advanced age.

Great survey. You can already tell some trends in the data. Will be interesting to see where this ends up.

There are trends alright, "What is my favorite/hated artisan on a personal level," would be one way to look at it.

I didnt see any mention of scent strength. For me its important. There have been some good performing soaps with a weak scent that caused me to discard the product

I had a friend from Germany bring me over three or four of those along with some tubes of the cream. I agree.

I find La Toja shave sticks quite good as well.

The survey is closed now although you can view the results - I don't really know how a ranking on a scale of 1 - 10 without considering scent or other relevant factors such as availability, service, stock etc can be considered anything more than a popularity contest. I guess that's probably the point right? Its interesting that a few years ago when faced with so many soap brands I'd not only not tried but not even heard of I might have gone on a buying binge but now that I'm reasonably well settled into the use of a number of products from a handful of artisans I no longer feel the need to try the next new thing. Thats not to say I'm immune to those pressures, it just takes a little longer. It took me about 8-10 months to even try Grooming Dept after I started reading people's feedback. Part of the delay was likely based on availability but mostly it was waiting to see how things unfolded - I'm glad I tried it as its now on my list. Other artisans like Bufflehead I'd buy whatever I could if it were available. Maybe I've just reached a saturation point? Nah, thats just crazy talk

Crowdsourced opinions are kind of popularity contests, aren't they?

The way I look it is this: is there a very good soap on the market (that a lot of people are considering very good) I haven't tried yet as a hobbyist?

Just like you tried GD after reading comments, I tried WKDM, Bufflehead after reading comments.

A survey like this won't alter opinion, it will, however, with a higher degree of probability, lead me to good soaps that I haven't tried yet. Not that I need to try more, it's just I am a hobbyist. I can't emphasize on the world probability over certainty enough.

For example, this survey rates Mystic Water and Mike's fairly low. But I have used those enough, have 14 soaps from them, my opinion is not gonna be altered because of someone else's low rating.

On the other hand, say I have not used WKDM and K-Shave Worx. If I make my next purchasing decision based on this survey, I will go with WKDM. And since more people rated it higher than KShave-worx, I would say the probability of me liking WKDM over KSW is higher than preferring KSW over WKDM. Then again, I might eventually try KSW and find it to be better than WKDM.

So yeah, for the sake of probability, not the certainty.
