Rasoio Masamune Nodachi

Will somebody please tell me how much the head weighs. Thank you.

My shaves over the last couple of days have consisted of using and comparing the Nodachi to the original Masamune razor and then trying differing combinations of handles, baseplates and top caps.



I used a Feather on each occasion and again found that does not feel anywhere near as smooth for me when using the Nodachi as it does when using the Masamune (when it feels buttery smooth).

After trying a number of options I’ve come to the conclusion that my two favoured combinations are the original Masamune set up and the Masamune baseplate with Nodachi handle and top cap (which is noticeably more efficient than the Masamune set up whilst retaining a relatively good level of smoothness). The Nodachi baseplate feels a tad harsh to me and I can only see me using it for head shaves or for a week’s worth of stubble.

One thing I did notice is that the two handles do make a definite difference to the shaves these razors give as well. The lighter weight of the original handle gives much more control and deftness of touch and, again, seems to work best with the Masamune baseplate and top cap.

The Asylum RX handle on the Nodachi requires two silicone spacers to fully secure the blade.

The Nodachi top cap has a longer screw thread (I’m not sure why).

The only other way for a cap to increase exposure is via a modified curve which gives me blade a more horizontal angle. As changing blade angle really changes the shave most current manufacturers probably opt for the narrower cap.

I’ve been playing with different blades Feather, GSB, Gillette Platinum and Astra and so far for me it appears that the blade only changes some efficiency with the first pass, but no change in smoothness.(Old Pic haven’t taken a new one)
