Questions about hot soaps right now

I would like to mention a few additional soaps that in my opinion could also rightfully belong in the same "HOT" category:

Talbot
Noble Otter
Ballenclaugh Soaps
West of Olympia

Why would you put Ballenclaugh and Noble Otter in the big dog category? I thought that these were run of the mill soaps as far as performance?

I can't talk about others, but in my book, Noble Otter soaps are great, worthy of being in the big dog category. I purchased this soap on a whim but pleasantly surprised by the quality - specially the post shave.

I posted my first impressions here. I went on to use the soap a few more times and my impression only got better.

But, remember, I don't consider myself to be the best judge of soaps.

+ 1 on Noble Otter. I have the four regular scents and am mightily enjoying them.

Ballenclaugh Soaps come in rather unconventional scents, but their performance is stellar.

You guys have ignited my interest in Noble Otter. I have a few samples. IIRC the scents were quite pleasing, but the performance was average. BAsed on your praise, I'll try them again and attempt to be more attentive. Thanks

At this point i just got through with another handful of samples from Oleo and I have Wholly Kaw coming today, and L&L/Tallow and Steel showing up tomorrow, plus eventually some Grooming Dept care of a couple forumers that were extra generous. If I haven't made a large purchase of soaps after all of that I might give the Noble Otter soaps a try. At this point, looking over their line, their scents are not really going to bring anything new to my table other than maybe the Coconut? I have tons of woody scents, lime, barbershop, etc.

Noble Otter has mentioned that they have some new scents coming up soon. Maybe something will catch your eye then.

Unfortunately, the two scents I really liked (After the Fire and Ambrosia) did not work for my skin (of course ). It's a shame because Ambrosia is actually one of my favorite scents I've ever smelled in a shaving soap. Oh well, can't win 'em all I guess.

This was a bummer to read, and I can sympathize, in a way. I happen to have a sample of what I believe was the prototype that lead to Ambrosia. I’ve only shaved with it once. Why? Because that shave was so phenomenal in every possible way, that the sample is now reserved for very special occasions.

I got the sample only after Mohammad had already discontinued Ambrosia. Additionally, I’ve later been able to do a side-by-side comparison of the two (dry soaps), and there is the slightest difference in the scents. I prefer the prototype. (It is somehow a bit brighter and more modern, even though as said, the difference is very small.)

We’re definitely not taking the “what’s hot now” approach.
