Question to the soapmakers

I have a small (about 40 and growing ) collection of soaps, all in rotation. Usually I bloom the soap and after that I load the brush directly from the jar. The question - is it OK for the soap? Is their quality and performance will not deteriorate over time? Or maybe it’s better to take a small amount into a shaving bowl and load the brush from there?

I don't think it matters. Just let the tub dry before putting it away.

If you wet (I prefer this verb to be honest) the surface of a soft soap, you take much more quantity with your brush. This is not exactly negative as you have plenty of soaps. I'd rather have more lather, I enjoy it more that way.

The negative of this situation is that artisan soaps have limited shelf life, we like it or not. Performance won't change, but scent and consistency will do so over time. Some sooner, some later. There are many examples on forums through the years. Many members have posted unpleasant experiences. This is a reason why my rotation is limited lately. I sold many of my soaps.

I really don't know how some people deal with hundreds of soaps.

At first I did not pre-wet the soap. Then I tried it for a while. I found that it did not make a difference to the lathering. Now I don’t pre-wet/bloom soap. One less step.

I have never bloomed any of our soaps.

I don’t recommend it either. Over time it does change the consistency of the soap. Depending on what has been added to the soap, it could also degrade the performance.
