Q Shave Scuttle

In my old house I put my lather bowl in the sink of hot water while I shaved. I always had lovely hot lather. The new house has a pedestal sink with steep sides. I can't put the bowl in their without it floating. I decided I needed a scuttle.

I looked at Georgetown Pottery and Dirty Bird but the prices were more than I wanted to pay. An internet search was not too helpful though there are a lot of hand-thrown ones on Etsy.

An Amazon search only showed a few. I never heard of Q Shave but the look and price were right. $18.99 due to a $1 off coupon.


It has a silicone stopper but I don't always use it.

My shave routine includes a cordless hot water pot. In less than 5 minutes I have hot water to fill the sink and the scuttle.



I have to make sure the water is not too hot as that can dry out and breakdown my lather. Other than that minor concern the scuttle works great. The ridges whip up a nice lather and the scuttle keeps it nice and hot. A great feel here in northern NH.



I would recommend this scuttle. It also comes in white. It is affordable and one usually spends enough to get free shipping. It has upped my shaving experience.

Glad to here the q shave works well. I have a PAA scuttle, which also works well, for about $26.

Naked Armor sells that identical scuttle and includes a synthetic brush and a puck of soap for about $30 on Amazon.  The brush and soap are both lousy, so you clearly got the better deal.

Scuttles like this are great for a nice hot lather.  My only issue has been dialing in the temperature.  Too hot and your lather becomes a crust.  To cold, and you've got a room temp lather by the time you do a third pass.

That looks great Phil    I’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating-be careful that your water isn’t too hot. I did the hot water kettle with a Dirty Bird scuttle and ruined a eShave silvertip badger brush. Bristles just fell out in large quantities.  I didn’t soak the brush in the boiling water either it was just through contact with the hot scuttle. So my experience is warm water is great, even hot water is ok but boiling water not so good.

I just ordered the black one off Amazon for $21.99. A plastic salsa bowl just doesn't keep the lather warm enough in the Wintertime.

I might seriously consider buying one of these.

I have a very large Dirty Bird Pottery bowl scuttle (the largest size Julie makes) with a nice web pattern and extra rim to keep the lather in, but it takes a good amount of water to fill it so a smaller scuttle like the Q Shave might be down my alley.

I do have a Dirty Bird brush scuttle that I had customized for larger knots and that works well too without needing a lot of hot water.

I have found that using a scuttle preps my face just as well as if I had taken a shower before the shave.
