Has anyone seen any benefits polishing the safety bar in their SS razor? I have a 6C since I heard the finish on the 6s is bead blasted and drags a bit.

I have a jewelers polishing wheel I thought I’d try if I picked up a SS non polished razor.

Hi Sicario
You have touched a very sensitive topic where people differ,
Apart from esthetics, gliding can differ between polished and non polished when soap is applied,
In the bearings industry - the higher end of bearings are always polished and need to be lubricated,

In my Rex Ambassador XL I polished the head to get better glide and I did see/feel a significant change for the better.
At the end - razor will work well if you are lathered properly, with or without premium polish, esthetics is a personal issue,

If you need a good polish - contact Alan ( AlanH81 ),he does amazing work

I'm surprised he hasn't popped in yet, but Dave in KY has a polished 6s. I can't recall if he's used an unpolished one... But I am pretty confident he likes the polished one a lot.

Personally, I had both razors at one point. The 6c was awesome and I decided to upgrade to the 6s, as I wanted something that would last a lifetime (the c is a chrome over zamak - even the handle... eew). The 6s ended up having drag, an unsmooth texture, and added weight. All three added up to a negative experience for me. In the end, I got rid of it.

The 6s wasn't horrible, I just missed the feel of the 6c. Don't know if this experience will help or further confuse you. Sorry.

Interesting. Maybe I’ll pick one up and only polish one side to do a side by side comparison. If there’s no improvement I can always re bead baldy it again (or polish the whole thing if it’s an improvement).

I’ve been happy with the 6c so far, just like the idea of a long lasting SS version.

I borrowed a buddy's 6s that he polished up so bought one with factory finish.
To me the polished one was nicer so I hand sanded and polished mine up too. After sanding and polishing mine, top cap, plate and handle it felt better to me.
Seems really all that would touch the face might be edge of the safety bar and possibly edge of cap.
 Sold it off eventually.

I have both the Rockwell 6C and the 6S. I've had them both for a long while and use them a lot.

I have not paid close attention to the dragging issue, but I cannot say that I have noticed any real significant advantage of one finish over the other. The two razors are not exactly the same in the hand, but they both shave extremely well without any detectable advantage of one finish over the other.

Would I ever consider buffing up the finish on my the 6S? No, it is a non-factor to me.

Having used some vintage razor heads where the finish is gone down to brass, regular nickel or mirror finish nickel for the same razor head there is really no perceptible difference when the face is lubed with cream or whatever you may use. There maybe if you dry shave but I doubt anyone does that except in certain situations. My 2 cents polish it for the aesthetics if that is what you like not for the performance.
