Kituwah is very strongly scented and smells great, The Forge is much more lightly scented but the base is great. Any of HSSC's tallow soaps are good performers.

Good news is most of those artisans above make an unscented version. Soapmakers go out of their way for scented soaps to make them on the stronger side scent wise. If not, they risk the ire of the purchasers.

Good luck and congrats again!

Grooming Dept may make some unscented soap in their various bases if you ask Mo directly.  Of course, you may have to wait a little

Another company worth your time is Cutting Edge and David makes unscented

Those would cover the 4 best soaps currently available

Thank you all for a lot of information Smile
I think I can search for and organise them for the list.

Some of them are what I have heard and some not so very excited to get to know them in detail Smile

Other soap formulas that will be in the same class (although not quite as expensive) are:

Ariana and Evans Kaisen
Declaration Grooming Milksteak
Grooming Dept Kairos
Grooming Dept Lamb Tallow
Grooming Dept Mallard (new formula just released)
Grooming Dept Nai (vegan formula)
Mammoth Soaps Tusk
Oaken Lab V3
Wholly Kaw Siero
Zingari Man Sego

I have a very large collection of soaps and these soap bases are the ones that come out at the very top of my evaluations. Mohammad of Grooming Dept is my favorite artisan soapmake as he has four different soaps bases that are good enough to make my top ten formulations. However, there are other soaps that are nearly as good as these. With my top ten, I can still feel the post shave conditioning for at least 16 hours after the shave. There are other soaps that will give a similar shave, but the post shave feel starts to fade after eight hours.

Ray has shared some excellent wisdom here. A&E, Wholly Kaw, and Grooming Dept are all top notch. My fav is GroomingDept as well. To me, the different bases are all excellent, and there hasn’t been a scent yet that hasn’t been wonderful! If you do order from Mo, make sure to get a bottle of the hydrating gel and one of the serums. They really complete an already great shave and leave your face feeling fantastic all day.

I will keep that in mind Smile Thank you for the tip for placing an order from GD

Congratulations on the impending birth.! Your life will be changed forever. Although he will eventually grow up and leave home, you will be a father for the rest of your life.

If you are looking for a scent that might not cause problems for a pregnant wife, a possibility is Grooming Dept Kairos Lavender. While not a weak scent, it is a sweet floral lavender scent. To my nose, many lavenders are pungent and somewhat camphorous. Mohammad blended two high quality lavender oils that represent 98% of the scent. It is a very soothing scent, like smelling lavender flowers. I would be surprised if the lavender caused issues for your wife. Even if it does, she will love it after the baby is born. If she shaves her legs, it would be a great soap for her as well.

Not sure which, if any, on that list would qualify as weak scented. A&E is famously strong  scented. They are all really top tier soaps,  though.

If you are referring to a soap known for its weak scent... Haslinger, perhaps? Very weak scents, pretty good performance.

Good luck and congrats on the baby. Do you know what you are having? First child?

Thank you Smile
He is the first child.

I used Haslinger and I quit buying it due to lack of residual slickness Sad

some recommended Heritage Hill soaps for the weak scent, whose performance they said is also nice

but after the birth, whether scents are strong or not doesn't matter Smile

So I am collecting some information on as many brands as possible.
Just as a follow-up to this... Specifically Heritage Hill. I received a tub of HH Washington last evening. It smells medium strength. I scooped a bit and lathered it... What I ended up with was a Pachouli bomb, to my nose. Not light at all, imo.

I can't speak to any of their others yet, but definitely avoid their Washington scent if you want light. 12 hours later, I can still smell it. I either need a second (maybe 3rd) shower or a Grateful dead revival.  Big Grin
