The upper part of the head/comb is for a reason not just looks, it allows soap to pass through keeping more on the face for buffing and follow up passes, and it does work, unlike a conventional razor that shaves and wipes away all of the soap in its path, the DOC leaves a little through the comb.

Do people who have the PAA Double OC and have swapped handles see a difference. I have the DOC and I'm curious if the handle will make differene before I sell it.

I love this razor as it is, but I do have a bulldog handle from Ikon and their limited edition one that is longer and heavier and they both, to me, affect how the DOC head performs.  Well, maybe that's the wrong way of putting it, uh...  It defiantly changes the way you USE the razor, because now you have a light head on a heavy handle, which means you need even less pressure on the head when shaving.  Of the two Ikon handles the bulldog is best for me to use with the PPA DOC, better control, I use the longer one for my Ikon Slant.


So, maybe try a different handle is you have one around, if not, it's up to you.  It might change the way you handle it which might mean you get a better result from it.

I picked up a Maggard open comb because I've always wanted to try and OC razor. Any idea how the two heads compare?

Maggards OC is very similar to paa's DOC. Both are very mild. And the angle is about the same. To be honest they are to mild for me.

I understand that this is the idea behind the open comb razors. What I don't understand is why do we need the top cap to be open comb?

To get more soap through.

I honestly can't picture this. Soap passes though the base plate (in this case open comb) and then it's swiped by the blade leaving no soap to pass though the top plate. The top plate does not even come in contact with the face or the soap. Or I'm I missing something?
