Personna Platinum Blades

I'm trying to figure out the difference between the difference in the Personna Platinum Blades in different packaging?

From what I read, one of them (forget which one), is made in Germany and then others are made in Israel.

Why the difference in packaging? Does it have anything to do with certain packaging for different markets?

The ones in the red packaging were affectionately called Israeli Reds having been made in a factory in Nazareth Israel.
The one in the red, white and blue package were made in that same plant for sale in the UK. Everyone I have read seems to think they are the same as the Israeli Reds.
You might still be able to find some of the Israeli blades, but as inventory becomes scarce, the prices have risen.

A couple of years ago, Edgewell announced the closure of the factory in Israel and production was moved to Solingen, Germany. This is the same plant that also produced the Wilkinson Sword Classic blades. Edgewell owns the Personna, Schick and Wilkinson Sword brands with the exception of some regions where Gillette owns the Wilkinson Sword brand. The Personna Platinums in the blue and gold packaging are made in Germany.

I have only tried one tuck of the German Personnas as I still have about 90 Israeli Reds. As far as I could tell, the blades were the same as the ones made in Israel. However, I have also read reports indicating that the German blades are inferior in quality. Thus, I do not know if the German blades are the same as the Israeli ones. Even if you order blades that are advertised as Israeli Personnas, you might end up with blades made in Germany. I think the term "Israeli Personna" is being used by some as a generic description just as "Kleenex" and "Scotch Tape" have come into common language to describe facial tissue and clear adhesive tape.

My "chase" for the confirmation or "answers" were because early on in shaving I got into the red pack Israeli made and labeled on the blade with Personna Platinum Chrome and were done in 5 packs. I found them to be spectacular blades and continued to use them with consistent results. Long story short, when I started using some of the 10 pack white wrapper same print on the blade. Those I guess are the "same" blade made in Solingen and while I still think they are a great blade. Early on, I'm not sure my shaves felt like they were exactly on par with each other and that at times, I felt like the Reds maintained a better shave consistently. To be honest, it's not a big deal because again, whether I know for sure or not, I collect both of them and buy them both frequently from vendors. Usually you will find the blue package, white wrapper (10pack) Personna Platinum blades being stocked by most of the vendors.

A word of caution for those still trying to buy the 5 pack red package "Israeli" blades, I bought some of these blades from a vendor who previously stocked and sold them, After a couple of orders later, I realized the 3rd purchase was actually labeled in the red package but instead of "platinum", it says "stainless". Somehow I missed it at first and then later realized there were a couple of different blades and/or package. The package you receive may not be exactly what is shown in the product pages for purchasing blades.

Personna Platinum (or Platinum Chrome to be technical), are not the only blades made by Personna. The confusion with the packaging and origin of the Personna Platinum blades is bad enough. When you start looking at other blades made by Personna such as the Crystals and the blades made by Accutec Blades in the USA under license from Personna, the confusion becomes even worse.

Then to further confuse things, Accutec Blades is the distributor of all Personna blades in the USA. It is no wonder that people have so much difficulty figuring out Personna products.
