Really think it speaks as much about first mover advantage, incumbency power, tie ins and oligopoly as it does profitability

There’s Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, Google Pay, Apple Pay… probably more that I’m not thinking of.
There are numerous options, but none that makes everybody happy. And I think that can be said about pretty much anything, the reality (unfortunate or not) is that we can’t get everything to work just the way we want and at the same time expect it to be free.
Can I sell stuff on bst or eBay and accept payment on Applepay?

Not on this BST. But that’s not an issue with the payment processor, that’s a restriction put in place by DFS… there’s plenty of other places we can BST that aren’t restricted to PP, so again it’s about what choice/preference do people have or want to make their priority.

I don't think DFS does not allow other forms of payment. They just restrict that if using PP you must abide by the guidelines.

ebay now requires seller to provide bank account information for direct transfer of funds after the item reaches the buyer. I do not think any other payment method is accepted there.

I'm fine with FF for people I know or have dealt with several times over.

I am also not a fan of the 1099K for selling 5000 dollars in the US.

All of this aside, unless I knew you really well, there is no way on Earth I would use Zelle and I avoid Venmo at all costs (yes I know PP owns it now).

I have had good luck with Apple Pay from people who insisted on using it vs PP.

All of this and I didn't stay in a HI Express last night :-)

Ok, just to be clear, if I wanted to sell you something and you wanted to buy it, I could ask you to pay me via ApplePay? Do I have set anything else up in my Apple account? I didn’t like the changes on PP a couple of years back and I never liked providing banking information. I know PP offers mediation services of some kind in the event of disputes and I don’t know if applepay would do that. At the end of the day it’s linked to your credit card which has dispute resolution services. This can be quite helpful in disputing charges etc.

A few years back my wife’s gym went bankrupt and shut down without notice.  It was annoying because up to a few weeks before shutting down they were soliciting one year prepaid membership renewals and offering a discount to do so. Scoundrels. In any case my wife went through MC’s dispute process where basically a merchant fails or otherwise refuses to deliver the goods or services after demand to do so. She had  all of her money refunded by MC.
