What I read here is this - if your razor arrives with cosmetic flaws, not develops cosmetic flaws over time.

I emailed them, to ask lifetime warranty covers rust or not.

They will probably say “yes”. But that is a business decision, not a metallurgical or engineering one.

Look, if you see my razors become corroded (not just tea staining) please let me know because I’ve never seen one.

"Be nice to your Rockwell Razor
If you damage your razor, or defects / imperfections arise as a result of neglect or intentional misuse, we will still send you the appropriate replacement parts for free. (In this case, we may ask that you cover the cost of shipping)."

From the wording it appears Rockwell will replace any parts that have rust due to user neglect. They are very nice. I would never offer that type of warranty if I owned a business. Not unless the price was marked up enough to cover the warranty loss.

Warranty is baked into the pricing. All my prices include estimates for parts replacement and returns. That’s what all physical products companies do.

I love these posts. Back in the day I read these threads to figure what vintage razor I had found or learned some manufacturing history but nowadays it’s a whole new world. We all have day jobs for which some have been doing well for some time and may be considered experts and have hobbies that we know and love dearly. But all these experts in business practices including closures, pricing strategies (did you know there are multi national companies that contract out with large companies to provide pricing consultation), metallurgy, CAD experts and design engineers can be found 24/7 on these shave boards. I guess some people have lots of spare time to share their “arm chair quarterbacking” with the rest of us.

If you want to purchase any item go ahead if not take a pass and let’s see what ultimately happens.

Please keep these conversations going as really, I am learning a lot even if it’s some of it is just nonsense

As Homer Simpson says Duh - yes it was meant to be as it gets old after a while. Let the man come out with the razor/soap or whatever without picking it apart before anyone has had a chance to evaluate it in hand or shave with it. Remember it takes someone’s hard work and maybe money that was bank loaned to bring the product to market. I’m not going to speculate on his business model other than he’s put effort, time and money into it way before we even know about it.

So yeah it bugs me, and I’m sure many others, to see all the criticism of pricing , materials, business strategy etc when we don’t know the story behind the product yet. So yes it was meant to be sarcastic and I’m glad some have noticed.

Long live entrepreneurs and creativity. If you want to patronize them or their ideas go ahead, if you don’t or you want to disagree that’s also fine but please tearing others apart ain’t cool.

In the meantime I, and others I am sure, are having a chuckle on some of these comments.

Just my 2 cents

No one is tearing anyone apart. There is absolutely nothing wrong with commenting on a new product! People can share there likes/dislikes about the aesthetics and what not. That is what the forum is for. A place for a healthy exchange of ideas where we can all share and learn from each other.

You’re being sold something because you’re told it’s “better” without considering whether it actually is for the job. This is a paper argument. In the hand you’d have absolutely no clue which is the “better” steel.

Personally, I did not order the new Paradigm razor this time around. This was not because of pricing though as I currently own or have owned every other Paradigm razor offered at one time or another. When I saw the introductory price of this new offering I was surprised it wasn't higher as they are one of the razor companies that has seen high demand. They have sold, for the most part, at or above their initial asking prices. I'm just very happy with the other razors I own and I'm guessing that this one isn't going to take my top spot from the WR2 I'm enjoying.

In comparing prices between the 17-4 and this new model I'm not sure how that pertains. If you show me that you can buy a 17-4 razor for $230 right now then maybe I can go along with the greed thing but the 17-4 razors last I checked are selling at around the $550 mark on the secondary market. I'd buy them all day long for $230 if I could. So sure we're comparing aftermarket prices to original MSRP but if Paradigm were to make another batch of 17-4 razors they certainly wouldn't price them at the $230 mark. Some information was given at the time about the difficulty of working with the 17-4 steel so taking on that challenge again would definitely raise the price quite a bit. Maybe he didn't price this offering too high as much as he may have priced the 17-4 offering too low. I know I wouldn't sell mine for $230.

A lot else has happened in the shaving market as well since then. Raw Shaving introduced a couple razors with steep initial offering pricing and Wolfman has had a price increase followed by a repricing structure. I remember when you could get a Weber all stainless steel razor for around $75 and people claimed that this was a lot of money for a razor. Then ATT came along at the $160 mark and people couldn't believe the asking price. Unfortunately, over $200 for a stainless steel razor is pretty much the norm now. Sure there may be a couple that are less and several others that are considerably more but the fact is that prices have risen substantially.

Why are priced so high. Because we're willing to pay them. There has been increased interest in wet shaving. Most of us are at an age and an income level where we can spend a bit more on something that we really want. So we have done just that. These makers see the secondary market prices that we are willing to pay and they make adjustments to their pricing model.

Look at brushes as well. With the introduction of Ebonite handles and hand tied knots prices have gone up significantly there as well. I mean, did anyone anticipate brushes selling at or approaching the $500 mark. Ebonite doesn't cost that much more than the other materials. A bit harder to work with though as it puts off an undesirable smell when it's on the lathe being turned into a brush handle.

I can't see how you can blame a vendor for trying to actually profit off of a product that they design and produce. They will sell these items for prices that the market will bear. It's up to us to choose to buy them or not buy them.

I didn't pay $500 for an ebonite brush but I did pay $300 and feel like an idiot. The knot is no better than my Vulfix best badger for $45. I used to bowl with ebonite bowling balls and they cost $100 or less. I am Bob and I have a problem...
