I can feel the blade on the Diamondback more than on the Paradigm SE. Still smooth, but to me I feel just enough blade to scratch that itch. Not as much as say a Charcoal Goods but some blade feel.

When I compared the DB to my WR2 1.45 I mentioned a narrower angle on the DB as to me there was more blade feel and less smoothness when I went too far in either direction ie, riding the cap or riding the guard as compared to the WR2. However finding the right angle and staying close to that was very intuitive, as it does give a very smooth nearly mindless shave IMO. I think this may explain some of the discrepancy on blade feel. If you shave more toward the extremes you will notice more blade feel.

Yes, the Paradigm SE may have even less blade feel but the SE produces a very mild shave. This Diamondback is exceptionally smooth with really no blade feel hence terms like "phantom" or "ghost" blade are good descriptions. The angle of approach is not a big deal and even if it's a narrower window than you may be used too it is easily determined. Don't read into it too much - it is a very smooth yet efficient razor. You get a great, smooth and comfortable shave with little opportunity to cut yourself. What more can one ask for in a modern razor ? It really is as good as several members have already stated.

I mean seriously.... I used it again today and it just blew my damn mind all over again. It’s so smooth and efficient that I can’t even begin to wrap my head around it. My favorite DE by a long shot.

Whisk-her Away It's all relative. The reviewer, Jack Daniels, has some very decided opinions on this topic. We were talking about it just today. He likes zero blade feel.

The Diamondback definitely has positive exposure.  Below is a picture a friend took for me of his 2020 DB.  The safety bar is lined up with the top cap.  In other words, the camera lens is on the shave plane.  You can see with the red arrow where the blade is sticking out past the shave plane.  There is a good bit of exposure, and there is not just one narrow angle where the blade will be applying a little pressure itself to the skin.

I took a similar picture of my 2019.  I added a mirror finish to my 2019 after the fact.  I may have increased exposure a little beyond design in the process. Below is mine with some intentional back lighting to bring out the blade.  Sometimes these forums tempt me to buy a 2020, but I like mine just fine.  The "phantom" or "ghost" blade is definitely not because the blade is hiding down in his hole with negative exposure.  It has come out to play for sure.

When it is cutting, the blade is definitely there.  You know it's there, and the angle is intuitive because of it. . . but it isn't harsh at all--it feels smooth and damped.  It is as if the blade has just a little "give". . . .like a cars suspension, but not so much that it hums or chatters (or gets scratchy).  I am convinced the "secret sauce" is in the blade "suspension" not the geometry, gap, or exposure.  I can't figure it out though, and it's driving me nuts. . . but I sure enjoy the shave while I ponder.

Below is the mirror finish I put on my 2019 (sorry for the soap streaks at the top).  Pay no attention to the ugly dude with side burns holding the camera. . . . just look at the pretty flower.

How did you polish it up so nice?
My 2019 also is a nice shaver, but we were promised a polish.
I like to shine it myself to make it look like yours.
TIA

I was going to pass on this razor, but the positive reviews made me rethink and order. After today’s first shave, I’m really glad I got the DB. The discussion about “critical damping” of the blade may really be describing something real and important about razor head geometry; I found the razor very smooth, with no chatter and feedback that seemed less as there was less hair to cut. I noticed this most at one of my usual touch-up spots under the chin. With many razors, it’s easy to hear the straggler whiskers getting cut during cleanup, but the DB gave very little feedback. It took a slight technique adjustment to cleanup effectively, but the result was a smooth and irritation-free shave. Looking forward to using this as a daily driver.
