I would never bash anyone for using a cart, but I, for one, will never use one again if I can help it. They do give me crappy shaves. Why suffer through that just because I'm on vacation? I'd rather just do one pass with a DE or SE and call it good if I'm concerned about time.

I fully agree with you, Jeff, but sometimes, needs must.

Freddy, I know that feeling getting back to a single edge. A deep breathe, slow down, relax. I know my blood pressure drops in a great way!

Marko, I'm late to the 6S game but it might be one of, if not the nicest, razors I've used. Really smooth close shaves. I really like the three holes in the baseplates. Really holds everything together beautifully and I'm actually preferring changing the baseplates to a Progress type adjustable. Its really surprised me. And yes, Gillette Silver Blues shine in them.

vtmax I'm also late to the 6s having just acquired one a couple of months ago and I agree that its a really nice shaver - close and comfortable. I find the Feather blade to be ideal for me so far with baseplates 2,3,4 and 6. I haven't tried 1 or 5 yet. I took down a 2 day stubble this morning on 4 with a second use Feather blade and it was one of the nicest shaves I've ever had. I've signed up for the 6c which I've opted to get in gunmetal chrome - @$45 you can't beat the price and I'm assuming it will shave as well as the 6s because it is the 6s with a chrome finish.

I can use carts if I have to use them.  I agree with Freddy.  I thoroughly enjoy the variety of all of the different things I've managed to collect over the past couple of years.  Each piece offers just a little bit different experience.  It's fun for me.  And, how can I knock Gillette?  Some of my favorite razors are Gillette.  Vintage, but still Gillette.  I jest! I jest!

I'm happy to admit that my favorite razor/blade to shave my head right now is a cartridge - a gillette guard. while it's not the 'typical cartridge', it is a cartridge razor, nonetheless.

Understandable. Back in the shavemyface days 2005-2010 we were more relaxed about the steel used as long as it got the job done.

Oh wow, there is a name I have not heard in a long time. Shave My Face... I just went by there and checked it out. It's still there, but a ghost town now. It looks like there are all of three people still posting there. It used to be pretty active seven or eight years ago. I wonder what happened.

August 2005 Badger & Blade began and grew. That drew new members. The core of the Shavemyface contributors grew older and I don't think a lot of them could get their heads around the logic in owning 40 soaps and 10 razors.  Recently Reddit (Wicked Edge) with their 90,000 members dwarfs anything. Shaving forums are tiny compared to that board.

One of the longest threads on SMF was about Fidelity. I fell off the wagon buying razors and had over 50 soaps. I read that thread again and am down to a 5 soap limit and three DE's.

Shavemyface is still there and it has the most comprehensive collection on the history of wet shaving, tips, and traditional products on the web. An encyclopedia of wetshaving. Great forum.

Shave my face has a limited draw to customers due to the fact that from what I read last year there, they are more interested in having fun and just shaving. There was no requirements as to what a person is supposed to have compared to other forums. You wont get laughed out if all you have is a slim or a fat tech with hazed finish, or a merkur or muhle or Edwin jager. Even having a Parker razor, or a lord or a wieshi is considered fine.

Hence, the focus on HOW to shave, isn't as interesting to most people as looking at photos of non existent artisan razors.


I do find it funny that a lot of folks bemoan and belittle those who discover the razor, and start complaining how bad carts really are. When the ones who do the belittling and bemoaning are those who thump their chest and stomp their feet simply because someone came along and told them that a 200$ stainless copy of a Gillette New is not going to shave any better then the real thing. Or that they got suckered into paying 130$ for a gold plated Edwin jager 89 razor, when they could get the head and handle separately for 30-40 each...
