Although I miss my Banjo boy a new buddy entered our lives.  Meet Duke, our standards Parti Poodle looking so busted because he's not supposed to be on the sofa.

We were delighted to see a poodle win best of show at the Westminster show this year. I sent this picture of the winner Siba, to a friend and he replied “I think I dated her in 1980. “. It’s all about the hair  Tongue

Strongly believe in adding new dogs as soon as possible. We tend to stagger dogs so that there will always be an established pack leader to help the new dog adjust. Also believe dogs happiest in packs. So tough losing these dogs to time....

I agree - we had two for a while and I think they functioned better as a pair - the older one had about 5 years on Charlie and he passed a while ago.  Its hard to lose them.

I went looking online for a poem I'd once read about how dogs are better people than most of us.  I had to abort the search, it grew too hard to read

Yeah, losing them is never easy and never leaves though the pain is diluted by time and new memories.

I used to hunt upland game but when my hunting buddy died, a beagle/lab mix, all the desire to hunt game left. It just wasn't fun anymore. Strange how they fill us and when they're gone they leave us empty husks.

Yesterday we were picking up some biscuits for ours and they've been needing a new bed for some time. So I grabbed one that I thought might last awhile. I introduced it to them and he caught on right away once I got on it and he did his best to get to dads face to give it a proper licking. I got up and yup, he landed right on it and wouldn't get off. Finally got him off to go outside and I picked it up and put it in their sleeping area on top of the older bed. When he came in he pulled it off set it to the side and laid down on it not to move for hours, as if to say, "THIS IS MY BED!". Of course it isn't but he likes to try to stake his claim. He got up to do something and his older "sister" got up and laid down on it to correct any thoughts he had in that direction.

I'll post pix at some point. It seems I never have enough time anymore.

Its interesting to watch the dynamics between two or more dogs in the same household - and about the proper face licking - even if you tried, you can't escape this...
