Blackland Razors I've always stayed away from the open comb blackbird because it looks very mean lol. And the teeth look sharp. I figured there's no way that thing could be comfortable. However, I accidentally ordered an open comb brassbird, and decided to try it out since it was in my possession...why not right?
I am happy to report that the open comb is actually very very comfortable. In fact, it feels even better than the safety bar version. I do not feel the teeth at all. I also shave with a very shallow angle, the way the BB was designed to be used, so I'm sure that helps. I think I find it more comfortable than the safety bar version because the open comb allows some lather to remain on the skin before the razor slices away. I also think the OC version looks much better aesthetically than the SB. And the new satin brassbird is absolutely gorgeous!!! I like it more than the polished one.

And this is coming from someone who does not typically like OC razors.

Anyways, I just wanted to start a new thread on the open comb black/brassbird in case anyone wants to search for it in the future.

I found both the SB and the OC plates on my SS BB pretty uncomfortable until I read Shane’s note on using a shallow angle. It made all the difference in the world.

I have an OC plate for my Ti Blackbird and have used it on a couple occasions but came to the conclusion quickly it is meant to be used only when I have multiple (4+) days growth as I found it much more aggressive than the SB plate.

Don't know what it is about the OC Ti plate that I have, but it is the most aggressive plate I've tried from Shane. I even have one of his 1st Gen Black Oxide in SB and OC and this Ti plate is even a bit more aggressive.

I think the shaving angle makes all the difference in the world with a razor like the BB.

That Blackbird Brass looks SO good, I love it! I’ve got both SB and OC in several Blackbird variations- Black Oxide, Stainless, Jet, and machined Brass. All of them shave beautifully IMO. I agree with the shallow angle, makes all the difference in the world. This new Blackbird Brass is definitely on my short list.

I understand what you're saying, and I am very familiar with the angles of the Blackbird as it has been my primary shaver since its release, both in SB & OC. Nonetheless, the OC Ti plate that I have seems to be just a tad more aggressive than anything I have tried from Shane. Not sure what it is.
Of course, this is just a subjective view.  Smile
