I take this as a karmic message - I'm already awash in excellent soap Siero, Kairos, Soft Heart, Milk Steak...
The performance of Zingari Man Sego base is amazing. The post-shave is as good as any out there. Just because you do not like Heather's take on bay rum, do yourself a favor and try one of her others scents.

Orrrrr if your feeling extra generous would gladly relieve you of that extra tub ;-)I'm giving one to DanLaw because he was first to chime in and the second one I'm going to send to andrewjs18 for this years Movember give away.
I actually did the same exact thing on a Maggards purchase and gave the tub to a friend. Can't remember what soap it was though
Sorry Oasisdave and Gbsher

It sounds like you have several elite soaps. WK Siero, GD Kairos, B&M SoftHeart, and DG Milksteak are phenomenal soap bases. The other soap bases that I have evaluated that rival them are: M&M Kodiak, GD Nai and Zingari Man Sego.
If you were "awash in excellent soap" why did you order the Zingari Man bay rum in the first place? As someone who has enough soap to last for more than the rest of my lifetime, I may be able to answer that question. You ordered it because you enjoy using amazing soaps. It's too bad you did not like the ZM bay rum scent as I think you would have enjoyed the performance.

I think that if an artisan wants to set the bar high then they should do so across the board. I understand that I won't like every scent they put out, I don't think anybody can honestly say they love everything by a particular artisan. Its one thing to have a well crafted, unique fragrance that you just don't care for but quite another to encounter a budget, generic off the shelf blend that's been used by dozens of soap makers already. To me when that happens - and it happens a lot with bay rum - it signals a lack of consideration of the scent category and the ingredients and the people who enjoy that category and those ingredients. A well crafted standard bay rum can be very enjoyable and a well crafted original bay inspired scent can be amazing. So what are they trying to accomplish? They clearly put more time into writing the copy for the scent notes than they did into deciding what they'd scent the soap with. You say I should still try the ZM base but I can't get past the feeling that if they care so little about this soap, how much care do they put into their other products. Maybe that's unfair and they only don't care about The Nomad but put lots of time and attention into their other products. I'd rather put my money in the hands of someone that cares about all their products.

Artisans have a difficult time picking scents. They can play it safe and use scents that have become cliche like Creed Aventus and AdP Colonia clones or they can take a risk and develop unique scents that people might not like. For example, Will of Barrister and Mann developed his unique Lyssa scent for Halloween; stocks of the soap still remain for sale five months later. They may still be there next Halloween. Even his Ravish scent developed for Valentine's Day can still be found on vendor shelves. I order to be profitable, such limited edition scents need to sell out quickly; at one time they did. As the marketplace is becoming saturated with artisans and the bathroom cabinets of shavers like me have become filled with great soaps, the demand for limited releases is not what it was a ejust a couple of years ago. Back then, many limited releases sold out in the first few minutes. There are soaps still in high demand like B&M SoftHeart.
There are lots of variations on bay rums. Ogalalla bay rum is considered by many to be a classic scent, yet I cannot use it as the high amount of clove in the scent causes severe irritation to my face. I also found Cold River Soap Works bay rum causes irritation due to the clove content. I avoided the Zingari Man Wanderer take on bay rum because of the lime content, another scent that irritates my face. One of the few bay rums I can use is Captain's Choice Bay Rum as it use cinnamon rather than clove. I also have Tallow and Steel West Indies which has a heavy orange scent accompanied by bay leaf, but it is not strictly a bay rum.
Thus, no matter what scent an artisan uses, there will be some potential customers who will be turned away.
