Darkbulb, Great write up!

Let me give you a suggestion on the extraction of the blade. Pull up (away from the handle) as you are pulling the blade out. After some use, this will slightly loosen the blade clamps (Don't worry, this will not damage the razor or worsen your shave. It is just breaking it in.), and you should find removal in the future to be a cinch.

Also, in my experience, I have found that loading and removing the same blade (However many times) in no way alters the blade performance.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
Do you yourself remove the blade after each shave and if so how many shaves do you average per blade?

I do remove the blade after each shave, and sometimes I even remove the blade once or twice during the shave to make sure it's perfectly clean. (I can be a little OCD like that.)

So far, I am only getting two shaves per blade (But two great shaves!).

I am wondering, however, that the reason for this is because I have never stropped my blades. I just took the suggestion from SharpSpine  to do this for the very first time today.  We will see if this makes a difference. (stropping certainly made the shave feel different,  but lengthening the blade life, and the quality of futures shaves with this technique is so far inconclusive at this point.)

darkbulb, thanks for sharing your experience. I also did find the unloading process a bit awkward. I use the blade only twice, so is not really an inconvenience, but I do take out after the first use.

Personally, I use a bit of soap on the blade and insert it back in. It seems to help. But I agree, for someone that may use it more than twice, it could be cumbersome for sure.

Nice overview of your first use. I personally don't see any problem with the blade extraction as it should be the same maneuver as stropping. The reinserting time after time, however, could definitely pose a risk to the keen edge.

I do wonder if this somewhat quirky loading mechanism is what led them to recommend one shave/blade.
I'll try to use the same blade all of this week and I'm curious as to how that will feel/work.

Would make sense, right?

It's possible… but to know for sure, you would have to compare the blade life in the OneBlade to the Valet...

I'm not too much into the technical part of razors and blades. I'm a feel guy, if I try and like it, is a keeper.

When you really think about it, the same action is applied in the first load of the blade anyway, so it could be damage on the first go. I think is why they suggest the application of a bit of soap before loading IIRC :-)

Personally I'm a hands off kind of guy for blades. The less I handle them the better, which is a little odd as I palm strop each new blade. However, after they are put in a razor I don't mess with them until it is time to replace them. The more you move them around the more opportunity you have to damage and/or degrade the edge.
