OneBlade Razor Offered On Amazon

Even $399 is ridiculous if you ask me.  For me, that's $540 CAD + duty and taxes.  I could be looking at close to $700 CAD with shipping, taxes, duty and exchange if I was to order one.

As for the Amazon and reviews, I wonder how many are even paying customers?  I really wish you couldn't review an item unless it was from a PAID customer.  Then you'd see honest reviews and feedback.  This goes for OneBlade, other new/hyped razors and anything for that matter.

I hear you. That is a lot of money for a razor, and like you said, if there are any issues, then it just gets even worse from there. In this wet shaving business, there are a lot of products that would be nice to have, but sometimes shipping costs and customs just make them prohibitively expensive — if they weren’t that on their own already.

To put a little more info out there, I received an email from OneBlade on November 9th asking for my help. They were requestion that I review their razor on Amazon. To their credit they even mentioned that they were fine with any review (good, bad, or otherwise).

I chose not to review it as I didn't purchase it there and I personally have too many questions left unanswered at this point.

Brian, thanks for this info! I was sure that OneBlade themselves were just copying and pasting reviews from their own website. It’s good to hear they actually asked their customers to provide the reviews. (At the same time, I do understand why you would be hesitant to do so.)

Brian, thank you for taking the path you did.  I used to rely on most Amazon reviews to help me make decisions on many products.  Now, I feel as if I'm negotiating a mine field.  To me, reviews should come from the purchaser alone, unencumbered by payment (in cash, goods, or services) or requests from the merchant.  I appreciate the stand you took on this even though you received and enjoy what seems to be a flawless razor.

So it appears the $399 price is on the oneblade website along with a drop in the price of blades to 89 cents each.

Amazon can be tricky, especially with less than 100 reviews. Amazon is going after the shills http://www.motherjones.com/mixed-media/2...iew-amazon, lots of articles on this. They can be positive or negative shills. fakespot helps a lot with this.

When somebody write about not touching the razor edge - you actually have to TELL me not to touch a razor? Really? Is that serious?

Feathers are now sold on Amazon too.

I ran the reviews through fakespot and .... uh oh.

If you don't know what fakespot is, just go there and run the reviews of any Amazon product to it. It tells you if the reviews are solid or fake. (fakespot.com)

 the score was F. >84% low quality reviews. They check the history of everything the user name reviewed.

Thank you for the tip on fakespot! I didn't know this existed, and wow. They make comments on the reviews such as:

Reviewer Analysis:
✓ Overwhelming amount of positive reviews

✓ Correlation with other fake reviewers' profile data and language.

✓ Large number of reviews created on the same date.

SharpSpine thanks for sharing that OB asked for a review, good bad or indifferent. That's fine.

When I read the reviews on Amazon, I first noticed that they weren't verified purchasers. This now makes sense, because they didn't buy on Amazon.

But there was something else about them that I couldn't put my finger on that didn't ring quite true. Now, I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 Star reviews on the OneBlade, as it's a good product, but there was something about these particular reviews just didn't sound right. Reading the reviews is disturbing. They read like advertisements. They are also NOT reviews of v2.0 which make them useless in that context.

When people write stuff like

amazing
Made of super high quality stainless steel,
use quality pre-shave lotion, shaving cream, and after-shave lotion

Oh my gosh!
The absolute finest

That's an immediate turnoff to me as it read like advertising copy.

I find this sad. And since its been outsourced to Amazon to sell, so much for the usual discounts.

Patience people... once the company goes belly up people can buy their heilroom razors for buck 99. Patience is a virtue LOL

Be sure to have a styptic pencil handy
I had experienced razor burn for the first time in 40 years.
After the OneBlade shave, my face felt like sandpaper.


One blade responded with a phone number and Amazon provides a different email address.

Don't know what this reviewer was doing but its the exact opposite of my experience albeit I can get razor burn if pushing hard. Since the review says he uses a cartridge, I expect he used pressure.

And blades? Gift and Care is selling for ~47 cents each for Black Friday with discounts.

I hated the Feather FHS blades (and by extension the Oneblade) until I tried the Gem PTFE blades. Night and day difference. Blades...the ultimate YMMV.
