Just got these before the weekend. WOW what a disappointment. This is one instance where buying a product with only three reviews at the vendor I purchased them from (all positive BTW) and not doing any further research, came back to bite me. Luckily, they were only 6.00 each and I had free shipping. Side note... they smell fantastic. Has anyone ever used shaving soap hard pucks in the shower as a bath/body bar? I'd hate to just toss these but I won't be shaving with them ever again because the performance, for me, was that bad. However, they do smell fantastic.

Sure. Why not? It is soap, after all.

people will often relegate their shaving soaps to the shower as a bar of soap if it doesn't make the cut as a shaving soap. nothing wrong with this...might as well use it up if you don't try to sell it first.

I'm bringing this thread back form the dead I 'm not the only one that really enjoys Oallala Bay Rum's scents and I would still love to see a collaboration between Ogallala and a soap maker who cares enough about shaving to actually put an effort into making (or contracting) a decent soap base. Imagine those great scents in a Declaration Grooming Milk Steak base or a Barrister and Mann Excelsior or Tallow + Steel's current base or Grooming Dept Kairos?? The mind boggles. I guess sales are good enough for them that they don't need to consider a reformulation. I recall a DFS member approached them a few years back with an eye to inspiring them to improve the base. His overtures weren't well received. I'll just keep on using their aftershave toners - Bay Rum, Sage and Cedar and Limes and Peppercorns are my favourites. The Sandalwood is ok if a bit sweet but the Vanilla to my nose is nauseating - if you're a fan of powerful kick you right where it counts vanilla scent this is the one for you. I haven't tried any of the others.
I am satisfied with the slickness of the Bay Rum + Sandalwood shave stick. I don't have enough soaps to be able to take a firmer stance on performance other than to say that it is definitely slicker than my Pre de Provence No.63 shave soap.
The scent of the Bay Rum + Sandalwood is really amazing -- smells like root beer to me --- to the point where I will probably invest in the deodorant stick. I remember reading good things about the Bay Rum + Lime scent, though I don't recall whether for soap or aftershave.

The bay rum lime and peppercorn is really nice
If the shaving soap works for you that's great because its an economical choice. I used the shave soap for a couple of years at the outset of my shaving journey. The performance was good and I loved/love the scent. I think it was B&M that made me realize that I could do slicker than Ogallala. If I'd stuck with them I'd have a lot less soap in the basement and more money in my pocket.
