Ode to the Mild Razor

I used to like cranking the Slim up to 9 (or QShave Futur clone up to 5 or 6), and I had been on the lookout for a Red-Tip Super-Speed, but somewhere around last Spring I started going for milder razors. Right now my favourites are EJ DE87 (same head as DE89), a pre-War Tech, '46 Aristocrat, British Aristocrat Junior, and a Schick Type K1 "Lady Eversharp" injector. 
For some reasons, adjustables at low settings aren't quite the same.

One of the reasons why I used to like aggressive razors was because I was always trying to get rid of "Ghost Stubble". This is when you feel roughness mid-shave, so you keep doing passes over the same spot, maybe dial up the setting. Then you give up. About 15-30 minutes after the shave is over, it feels super-smooth anyway, as if the "stubble" simply faded out on its own.
Now that I'm aware of it, I make do with a milder razor, fewer passes, and get a BBS anyway with less irritation.

It’s all about a fresh blade for me. Blades cut, razors just provide certain levels of comfort in presenting a blade.

I never use a blade (usually Super Iridium) more than twice. I just prefer sharp blades. New blades. I find mild razors like the Baby Smooth shine with a new blade. It eliminates the mild vs aggressive razors conversation for me.

If I toss a blade before 20 shaves, I feel very prodigal. Unless it's a QShave Titanium - best first shave ever, then total crap on the 2nd.
With most blades I find they aren't properly "broken in" until 3-4 shaves, and if I remember to do so, I'll cork them before the first use.
With Shaverboy blades costing CAD$7.95 (including taxes plus shipping) per 100, that makes my blade costs 0.4¢ per shave, and they're comparable to Astra SP for quality and smoothness.

I'm with you on mild razors and I usually go for BBS. Rockwell 6C on plate 3, Gamechanger .68 CC, Karve B plate OC. For a very inexpensive mild shave it would be a 1912 Gem or Gillette Canadian LC New. I just can't beat some of the vintage razors I've tried compared with the more expensive modern razors.

I’m with all you mild razor guys as I LOVE to speed shave! The brass CG G1 L1 DC is my all time fav razor hands down....smoooothest operator, efficient as can be, fav blade in it is a PolSilver. Open comb and Straight bar luxury.  There’s nothing you can’t do with it.  You can mow down growth and detail it all out with the sb.

I don’t have sensitive skin but full disclosure, my facial hair growth is very lite.  It’s concentrated to my neck jawline, chin and side burns

I have some aggressive razors but those come out when I feel like taking the time to mind what I’m doing.  I’m normally shaving with one eye open trying to wake up in the shower!

I had to look this one up as I’m unfamiliar, lol, and now I want one based on this article! Seems like would be a good travel razor or camping razors!

If you pack it carefully. The catch is that the baseplate is part of the handle, so unless you immobilize it you could get a lot of stress on the spot where they join...

Unfortunately they seem to be disappearing, not many left even on ebay (and at inflated prices, the cheapest I'm seeing is $8  , I bought two for $5 a few years ago). For a while they'd switched to a TTO (an inferior design, I always get more burn from razors that hold the blade flat), but I can't even find that anymore...

Sorry, but what is a Feather DS? There is the Feather AS-D2, which is a mild DE razor that is an homage to the humble Gillette Tech, and there is the Feather SS, which is actually a shavette (technically, a replaceable-blade straight razor), but I have never heard of the DS. Did you mean to say one of the others, or am I missing something?
