I'm still confused about how the top cap changes the aggression when the blade gap remains unchanged.

Looks like we should start receiving the razors possibly as early as Friday or Saturday.  DHL has 5 packages heading to Idaho from Seattle (usually 2-4 business days)...

There are 18 packages in all so hopefully we get them all by mid next week.


Here is the tracking the items should have been here tomorrow (11/16/2017) however this time of the year DHL rarely makes those deadlines with all the customs clearance delays:

Well, looks like my razor is scheduled to be delivered today. I skipped a day of shaving just to try this one out. Anyone get theirs in and take it for a spin? Any initial thoughts on the shave and what to look out for? The only info I've seen is from Michael P on another forum or two. Gave him a good comfortable shave, but that there is some play evident with the blade once inserted into the razor. Maybe cause for concern or perhaps engineered to allow this type of movement? Emailed the makers, but no response as of yet..... My Sherlock Holmes cap is on for this evenings shave once I'm home.

got mine today. knowing my face I switched to the mild head and loaded a pro guard. yes there is a little floating action when the blade is inserted (tested on mild and medium heads). I gave the blade a slight bow in the center and the floating disappeared. shaved my face with it and it was super easy and comfortable, this from a guy who uses a majority adjustable de razors and has weird skin from radiation tx and scars from surgery.

my only criticism is that it doesn't have the handle that the earlier prototypes had but it's easy to hold (probably easier than would be with the original design).

no regrets on the purchase, I'm probably going to let my asylum rx go after I get with a few other blades.

edit :after imparting the blade with a slight bow it laid flat after being inserted into the razor; using the little tool is optional if your fingers aren't as fat as mine

I received mine the other day and shaved today using the moderate head and proguard blades.

It was pretty comfortable and I don't have any complaints, or anything special to say about it, yet.

I was wondering about the blade chatter myself, but that's covered in this video that they just released.

Not to bad a shave at all. It was a pretty good shave to be honest, although there is a bit of blade movement but it does not effect or come into play once the shave begins. Rather light razor for being made of SS, but there is good balance and grip. Handle has some type of textured feel that even when wet, I never thought once it would slip. I used the 2 dot head with a Feather Pro Super and it went quite smoothly. It is a wide razor, so a few more shaves are in tow to dial it in and get a good feel for it. DFS on 2 1/2 passes with just one tiny weeper on the neck. Smooth, comfortable and irritation free. It is a different feeling razor and shave, but in a good way. More time on it will tell, but so far not too shabby.......

That is a beautiful looking razor. How does it perform???

Round 2 with the Occam's. Tried the 3 dot plate/head, but continued to use the Feather Super Pro. Quick change in about 20 seconds. No issue with the screws and threading on the new plate. Untighten the screws, leave them in their slots and align the head. Tighten them up and done. Blade went in without a hitch.

I would say that I have to agree with a couple members on another forum concerning the protruding safety guard. I feel as if it hinders the shave somewhat in that it prohibits the user from getting into tight spots. And the wide head doesn't help with the situation either. But, I will say that with the 3 dot head, I got a much better shave than the first one. Near BBS in 3 passes, but again I needed extensive buffing because of the guard & wide head. The Super did not feel overly aggressive or fierce to be honest, and it went through the stubble with ease. Not nearly as aggressive as I thought. The soap really helped with the buffing session, if not my face would be on fire right now. Just very light irritation on the chin that was gone with the alum and cold water rinse. No nics, cuts or weepers to speak of.

I'm not writing it off yet, by no means. I'm giving it a full weeks worth of shaves before I make a decision if it is rotation worthy or not. I've gotten 2 good shaves so far, but needed to put in some work to get them. The handle is a bit confusing, especially when trying to get an angle on the neck and corners of the mouth. Still trying to figure out the best way to hold it. So, 3 things for me so far. The over extended guard, the wide head and figuring out the best way to wield this tool.

Like I said, I'm putting in a full week with it. Next shave though I'm trying a Proline in the 3 dot just to see how it performs in the most aggressive setting. Jury is still out....

Undecided yet. Still got some time. It shaves well, but I have to figure some things out on it. A few more shaves should do it....

Round #3

Finally! A 2 pass shave with minor touch ups for a BBS finish on the third try. The Occam's & Proline combo worked very nicely together, smooth and efficient. What did I do to make it work for me? Well, I actually combined 2 techniques and a ham fisted grip. Here's the skinny:

I decided to try shaving like if I was going to straight shave with some skin pulling and stretching. But, I coupled that with simulating a cartridge razor shave with some light pressure and long, steady strokes for both WTG and ATG passes. From sideburns to jawline in one easy motion, cleared that and from jawline to bottom of my neck the same way. I never lifted the razor and Like I said, applied just a tad bit more pressure to keep the guard and blade flush with my skin on every stroke. It was a little counter-intuitive for me, but it worked. The grip was a little strange also as I grabbed it like I would a paint roller handle and just rotated my thumb behind the razor head and rested it on the groove/hollow of the handle. It felt weird, but I quickly got used to it and I finished the whole shave that way. The result was an excellent smooth, nic, cuts and irritation free shave. Still a little work in clearing the corners of my mouth and stache area, including a bit around the Adam's Apple area but it was better than the first 2 attempts.

That's what I did and somehow it worked. Perhaps with the longer guard a bit of pressure may be needed to create that pocket and plane for the blade to cut it cleanly maybe? Or the combo of both skin stretching and a bit of pressure sort of cartridge razor shaving like? I'm not going to look at the physics and science of what could have happened. There are better people here that can look into shave planes relative from razor to skin dynamics and can expand on that much better than I can. I'm just saying that the combination of techniques I employed worked, and worked well.

It's not out of the woods yet, but it took a good step forward for me. Like I said, I'm going to commit to a full week of shaves, 5-6. It took 3 shaves to get a good one. Let's see if it can deliver a few more consistently. I'll put in another shave with the Proline then move on to a guarded blade and see then.....
