Nivea Aftershave Lotion. Hype or the real deal? My journey.....

Sounds like this is great stuff, Gus. For reference, have you used any of the Chatillon Lux aftershaves? Those are my gold standard. I'd love to hear how they compare. If you haven't tried a CL aftershave, I might need to bring a bottle with me when we visit Stone Cottage in May...

I have been considering getting an order in for the Chatillon Lux aftershaves. My only fear is that I don’t know which particular scent to try. I do prefer more of a citrus/fresh scent for the warmer days coming ahead but I’m open to most any scent as long as it has a masculine vibe to it. Which would you happen to recommend?

Fourth & Pine is your best bet - it doesn't have any pine in it, its the name of a street. Fresh, citrusy and summery. Either that or Yuzu Rose Patchouli which is very citrus forward as well. You couldn't go wrong with either of those.

These are very good recommendations. I would also mention Colonia Balsamica, which speaks summertime to me (but not citrus). It will be available again in May. I'll bring some to NJ.

Got 2 more shaves in and the Nivea Vitalising A/S has been up to the task for all the shaves in dealing with minor irritation, razor burn and inflammation/redness. The scent is very light and dissipates rather quickly. No fear of it clashing with your preferred scent of the day. It goes on really well with no oily feeling as the skin absorbs it rather quickly. About a minute later your face feels smooth and moisterized not to mention a decent soothing effect once applied. Miracle juice? No, but it does what it says it will do. Soothe, refresh and condition your freshly shaved face after a couple of rounds with steel being raked over it. Simply it works and for the $4 - $8 that it might cost a fellow shaver, well worth it in my book.






On a side note, though it contains alcohol (denatured) there is absolutely no burn or quench from this product. No menthol either. It feels more like a face tonic with soothing qualities..... I can see adding a few menthol crystals to it to liven it up a bit. Just might do that.

Last nights shave report....

After last nights shave, could’t get a write up as family matters came to the forefront. But the next item was the Nivea Sensitive A/S lotion. And to my slight surprise, it worked very well with a very nice lighter scent that is very close to the balm scented one, but fresher to my nose. Lingered just a bit more than the previous Nivea Vitalizing A/S lotion, but not much. If you like the Sensitive balm scent, you will definitely like this one.

The shave was rather nonchalant with no irritation or razor burn as the Gillette Twinjector paired with the Schick Injector II twin blade is an extremely smooth pairing with excellent whisker cutting prowess. You hardly feel the blade, but you know it’s cutting, and cutting well. I can’t possibly see someone cutting or shredding their faces up with this blade. Ultimate comfort smooth shave experience. 3 passes and very close BBS finish all around minus the Adam’s apple area, but that is pretty much most of the time.
Grabbed me some lotion and just poured some on lavishly and worked into my skin. Like I said previously, a great fresh, clean scent that can be left alone if one desires. Won’t last long, but you can get about an hour or so of the scent. My skin absorbed it quickly without any tackiness and absolutely no sting, burn or quench. Again, no alcohol in this one Gents. If you like no alcohol, this is not a bad alternative at all. My skin felt refreshed, rejuvenated and completely moisterized. Very soft and supple to the touch to be honest. The Misses actually walked in on me and said “nice sent honey, and your skin feels so good” quick peck and out she went. SWMBO approved Gents. That’s always a plus....



Next shave coming up will be with a much more aggressive razor. The Formidable Ikon Tech. We’ll see if the Nivea Sensitive is up for the challenge....

I had read sometime ago on another forum that the Nivea Deep aftershave lotion was a pretty good performer and had a bit more of a woodsy note.

Well, I was at my local CVS picking up some meds for the Misses and while waiting I started to walk around the shaving accessories area. Lo and behold I saw the bottle for the Nivea Deep lotion. It was on sale for $4 so, I happily grabbed it. That was 3 days ago and so far have used it twice with very nice results. Same toning and conditioning properties as their other splashes but, I can definitely confirm what others have said about its performance and scent. More masculine and actually has a bit of staying power as the Misses picked up some of it an hour or two later. Not bad for a splash/lotion. Going to run it for a few more shaves and see how it goes over an extended period.....
