Hello DFS
So I had permission from andrewjs18 to make a shameless plug about my soon-to-be open farm store when one of my new butchers by chance, without my asking, bagged up the fat from one of my lambs. My thought process went like this;
"Why did he do this, I didn't ask for this."
"I'm not a soaper."
"Hey, wait a second..."
So I had a few more lambs processed and actually asked for the fat to be bagged up separately on the side, and I wasn't disappointed.
So I contacted a local soaper who does primarily vegan soaps and pitched the idea of making me some sheep fat shave soap. She has agreed to render it down and make some proprietary scents made only for me and sold only through me. When I get some cattle butchered this fall she has agreed to make me some bath soaps for me also.
She has been making soaps for yrs and as most do started off making tallow based soaps and migrated to vegan. She will be formulating new a sheepfat/vegan blend superfat shave soap for me. I told her that I am a shave soap snob and my target audience will be as well and even before the first batch she is willing to take the Pepsi challenge and put this soap up against all comers. She is sharp and quick witted, I really like the way operates.
So this soap will be made of sheepfat from lambs I have processed from my farm and later beef tallow soap, again from beef raised on my farm. Why waste a good thing? I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner.
With that said, she is going to make a few test batches. Some may be scented, some may be scent free. Of course test batches are just test batches and final product will have all the tweeks incorporated. After I send out a few samples for test drives, and get some ready for sale, my account will be converted to a merchant account and look different obviously. Rules is rules.
I have a few guys in mind I will ping because I trust their judgement and objectivity. I may solicit a few others to expand the sample pool.
Oh, and I will be selling out of a brick and mortar store located in Southern Illinois. I will have farm raised frozen beef, lamb, some pork, and this fall we'll have some farm raised turkeys and rabbit. Bulk purchases encouraged
