I've been meaning to migrate my journal here for a while. I see a number of old friends here now too. I guess we all know why.

Things are ok here, I mean as good as they can be in these times. 

Being semi-retired, I spend a lot of my time doing weight training. I'm not big or strong by any means, but I've been pretty physical my entire adult life, and at this stage, this is what makes the most sense to me. And of course, I really enjoy it. Not only the bodybuilding style training, but all the exercise science stuff that underlies it.

Well that's enough of an intro for now. 

On to shaving.

We're doing a February Williams only thing at the 'other place'. Chris Lindsey gave me a vintage puck in last year's gift exchange, and it seemed like a great time to sit down and give it a try. I have to say, it's way better than I expected. Does it match my soap of choice (Tallow and Steel) no, but it's absolutely as good as many other high end soaps for me.

Let's see how this goes. I'll try to at least get something in on a weekly basis. Sure to be plenty of morning rambling, stay tuned!

Well the month of using vintage Williams is over, and I have to say, I really liked the stuff, sort of changed my perspective on a lot of artisans tbh. For one thing, I didn't really have any sort of irritation. I'm not sure if it's just the lack of scent or what. I didn't actually miss scent in the soap at all either. Aftershaves and fragrances do that job just fine.

I'm not sure if I can find where to score more from here, but this was an eye opener for me. Tbh soap is the one thing in the regimen that can be boring and the same for me, if it works.

That said, I'm back to mostly using T+S again.


Life wise, had a couple of slow weeks. Got a bad case of 'gastric distress' then when I got over that, I messed up my lower back stretching. Everything is fine now, and I'm slowly working up to a new training block. I'll do about a month of more strength and lifting technique work. I've never been a super strong person, which is probably why I find lifting fascinating.

Nice post! I have been feeling some back soreness, and need to do some stretching and light exercise to help it. And my clothes seem to be shrinking, so I hear exercise and eating habits can be helpful for those issues!

I decided to make Friday Williams day this week.

Beyond that, I'be making heavy use of a humble late model Gillette Tech. A stupidly good razor once you get past the need for the latest and greatest. (Or just don't want to splash out for it in the first place.) For a mild razor, it's probably one of my more efficient shavers, and at least this specimen, has a nice heft to it, so it feels like something in the hand while staying fleet of foot.

Yesterday I went with a New, and think it does a better job on my neck overall. It's probably my favorite of the open combs I have, even beating out the RFB

Otherwise, it's lockdown life. I guess like everyone, I'm getting weary of it all. Sadly, Helsinki is about to tighten the lockdown, as the latest measures haven't made a dent in the numbers here. To make matters worse, my wife just got a ping on the contact app, so it means a few nervous days, though she's done everything possible to stay safe.

At the beginning of this I thought Europe was going to handle the situation well, but as it turns out, we're lagging, I still have no idea when I'll be up for vaccination. The EU really dropped the ball there, and it's very frustrating to say the least. I'd really like to go out of the house, but it looks like it's going to be a while after all. Blah.

I am still weight training and riding the spin bike, which is my key to keeping it together. I started a new training block this week, but am running up against some old issues, so will need to tone it down a bit and work on keeping it sustainable.

Hi HMan , I'm Marko  aka Mark and I'm glad to meet you.  I'm looking forward to enjoying your journal not just for shaving but to hear about and exchange ideas and thoughts on weight training.  I'm a retired person (61) and weight training is my primary fitness activity.  The lockdown which resulted in gym closures had the silver lining of getting me to add to and improve my home gym setup.  I don't know if I'll ever go back to the public gym.  I love the commute to my home gym, its never crowded and the equipment is always clean and available.  Right now I'm in a forced low activity period - I've been getting some veins in my legs treated/removed and they do them a little at a time spaced out over several weeks and I can't lift for a couple of weeks following treatment - no core pressure/stabilization allowed so that makes any kind of strength training hard.  I feel like the witch in the Wizard of Oz - I'm melting!(wasting).  No worries though because its the journey and the process so it doesn't matter, I'll just start again.  and again.  I've picked up some books by a strength coach/strength athlete named Dan John - I like his approach and his philosophy .  Because of him I even picked up some kettlebells and I'm planning to do the 10,000 swing challenge.  So far I can manage 500 swings in one workout but to do it in 5 consecutive workouts with 2 days off and then again3 more times.  Thats something I have to work up to.  Why 10,000 kettle bell swings?  Why not?  Its a challenge.
