Scentsless Shaver

I posted a picture yesterday in the June 2016 acquisitions thread, but I want to expand a bit on the razor.
Back in December 2015, barely 1 month into DE shaving, I decided to get a birth year Super-Speed. I found one on the Bay that was fairly clean. I scrubbed it when it arrived, and even dunked it in Barbicide to kill any cooties hanging out, and was not impressed with the first shave. Turned out it was me and my technique that were unimpressive. A couple of months later, I liked the razor so much I decided to make it "mine" in more than birth year, so I sent it off to Jay at Delta Echo Razor Works. What I got back soon became a regular, alternating with one other razor.
At the end of April, I was very interested in the adjustable razors. My first search on eBay turned up not just a birth year Slim, but a birth quarter one. I bid and won. When it arrived, it looked scary, to me. The insides seemed corroded. I quickly went back to the pics on eBay, and sure enough, if you knew what to look for, there it was. Here is my photo, which more clearly shows what scared me.

I kept the razor for one day, then promptly sent it off to Delta Echo. What I got back yesterday didn't even seem like the same tool. I was immediately impressed by the finish, and it seemed heftier than I recalled. And the inside looked like this:

The first shave was great. I started at setting 3 for the WTG pass, using a blade I had experience with and like enough that after I use up my samples, it will be my first 100 blade purchase (see, I am trying to stop buying!). For the second pass, I tried setting 4. The result was very good, but not quite as close as my Maggard V2 open comb with the same blade. But hey, I've got 5 more settings to play with!
Back to my point, which I did have but lost for a moment, Jay really cleaned up that Slim. I had worries that I'd get an email saying it was too far gone, or that it wasn't worth the effort. But it turned out great. I should have just relaxed; after all, he has photos posted here I believe showing some before and after with some razors in arguably worse shape. I couldn't be more happy to have this Slim back to prime working shape. I am just amazed every time I pick it up what engineering went into it, and this was a daily shaver, just a tool like a screw driver, to some guy somewhere. Now it is back, and I look forward to many shaves with it!
