My new Hair Pomade (Raw Shea Butter)

I find most hair styling product carries a scent that will never mesh with a nice EDP thus have been looking.  I like a softer hold and basically just want to battle fly-away hairs.  Well, I found it.  A while back someone asked about Shea butter as a pomade.  It seemed a little heavy and greasy for my taste but a few months back a found myself in a hotel room with no styling product.  What I did have was my ever-present Shea tub.  I took about a pea sized dollop, warmed it in wet hands, and applied to damp hair.  I styled my hair and it worked.  I recombed  it later in the day and it worked!  There was no "helmet".  In fact I don't suppose my bride even recognizes it's there as it is not greasy in this volume.  Been using it since and now there is never a problem with my chosen scent clashing and my hair never felt better.  A little dab does it for me and my fierce cowlicks are tamed.  So does Shea work as a daily pomade?  Sure does for me!

Interesting. I find that the scents of my various hair dressings tend to dissipate once the hair sets and I don’t have a problem with my chosen EdT. I think I would find even a little shea butter too greasy, but that’s just me. Also, to me, shea butter has it’s own scent so doesn’t that cause a problem?

I'm going to give that a try.  I have the same issue, some fly away hair and I'm not a fan of the heavy pomade look.  I've tried a few different products with varying degrees of dissatisfaction.  The best so far has been the D.R.Harris hair bay rum tonic with oil but I have to be careful to use a tiny amount otherwise I get a greasy look.  I have a tube of Pre de Provence shea butter that I will experiment with.  Thanks.

I agree the raw has a scent but it too is light and dissipates quickly.  My wife likes refined shea ant it is odorless to my nose.i was worried about “grease” but darned if it doesn’t work without being oily.

I use a miniscule amount of coconut oil (organic, raw, unrefined) with some damp paws, and it works better than any product I've ever used. I'm sure the shea butter works just as well.
