Meddle - Pink Floyd

Everybody involved with this project had to have known the band was on the precipice of legendary greatness. Every track is perfection, losing comprehensively the limiting zeitgeist of the music industry. The only element missing was a cohesive theme to the album....

it's a shame Janis couldn't give us more good music before passing...here's a good cover of one of my favorite songs she did:

Andrew, it's not a bad cover but would have been better without the video.  The singer is too perfect, as strange as that may sound.  Janis Joplin was raw in the singing of that song, both in voice and looks.  When I think of Piece of My Heart, this is what I think of:

I believe that unless a cover singer can make a song his or her own, it should not be attempted.  For example, The Rose is owned by Bette Midler.  Others have covered it but the magic is simply not there.  Over the Rainbow is Judy Garland and the only one who did it as well was Israel Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole, the late Hawaiian singer, but he completely made it his own.  Another example of that is Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You.  Whitney Houston made it hers.  In each case the song is recognizable as the same song but done so differently as to be appreciated anew.

These, of course, are just my opinions and I am certainly open to others' thoughts.

We used to get lots of Slipknot around the house. my son played drums and Joey Jordison was quite the metal drummer. I still remember asking my son about which double kick pedal Jordison used and he just looked at me and said “dad, he has two kick drums. Cue eye roll.

Brother Iz. He did the same thing with Take me Home Country Road.
