While this Neil Diamond song has universal appeal for nostalgia and what was, coming from Brooklyn as I did, I find his descriptions particularly poignant.

As one homie to another, I thank you Freddy.  Aside from the magic carpet ride to back-in-the-day, I learned something today.  What I learned is that even though I do not fit his character to a "T", his lyrics are still universal.  It's not for nothing that we still listen to him.

It still amazes me that Billy Strayhorn wrote Lush Life - so verisimilar, compelling, and dismally haunting - between the ages of 16 to 20.  I still love the Coltrane/Hartman version, but something about Natalie Cole's performance nails it for me.

Agreed; Neil Diamond under appreciated or, alternatively, poo-pooed

Absolutely love crooners. Dream would be to open a 40s style dinner club where this music is featured.
