Nice collection!

Thanks Spencer!

I am happy to take a crack at comparing the two hair types for you.  Simpson's Manchurian and Simpson's two-band are both wonderful hair types.  I enjoy both and will keep both in my collection.
Manchurian Defining Characteristics: the individual hairs are large in diameter and therefore produce increased backbone.  The knots while definitely densely packed still retain good flow-through due to the fact that the density is achieved with fewer hairs because the individual hair fibers are larger in diameter to begin with. I find the tips of Manchurian hair to be very soft, and that the tips increase in softness with use.  In fact I have observed that the hair tips of each modern Manchurian knot I have owned have curled after just a few uses, giving them a gel-like feel. In fact the brush that I would say has the most similar face-feel to currently available Simpson's Manchurian is the famed Rooney gel-tip brushes produced a number of years ago. The shape of the knot is referred to as a Hybrid, which is simply somewhere between a fan and a bulb. I actually quite like the sahpe and feel like it suits the hair well.

Two-Band Defining Characteristics: Two-Band is a finer, smaller diameter hair as compared to Manchurian. The tips are very soft and the knot is less densely packed which means soft face feel and great flow through. The bulb shape of the knot prevents the brush from being floppy and loosing backbone.

Here are two of the photos from the above collage that demonstrate visually some of the differences I feebly tried to explain.

Nathan, beautiful collage of your collection, my friend! It sure looks like you could use a few more colourful handles, though! Happy

Merkur Man your breakdown of Simpsons hair types is very helpful. I'll be referring folks here if I see that same question elsewhere.

Nice collection! Do you only prefer badger hair brushes? Just curious if you dislike boar and synthetic brushes.

Definitely prefer badger. Although, my experience with boar brushes is limited to the SOC and my experience with synthetics is limited to Simpson's Chubby 2 synthetic. Both the boar and the synthetic work well, I just prefer badger.
