New to wet shaving and I already feel the compulsion to buy a ton of expensive gear. Seems pretty common- newbies like me with profound opinions and explosive shave dens so I thought I'd ask if there is medication or therapy available.... before my wife throws me out the haus! Big Grin

No medication and there is no therapy that will help

Your best bet are peer advice, reviews and consensus mate. That's your best guide in my opinion. Lots of hype out there so watchout for those.

Congrats btw, it's an awesome hobby and welcome aboard Smile

Expensive is not always better, but I can see your concern. The only piece of advice I can offer you is to remain within your means, I'll rather have "one" piece of equipment that really does it for me, than ten pieces that are so so.

One can never keep up with the Joneses and the Joneses really don't care if you can keep up.

Enjoy the journey and always make sure your wife is your number one enabler, so be smart and don't lie Smile

Best advice ever so don't even try. Most people keep chasing the perfect razor/shave. I figured out that I already had the best razor(s) in my den already a year in, but kept buying unnecessary stuff thinking I was going to find something better. It is nice to have a variety of razors/brushes/soaps though. I'm glad that I'm past the acquisition phase though now and really enjoy and get to know the things that I do have. There are still soaps I want to try, but I had a hard enough time getting down to about 30, and there are a few vintage razors that I think about buying from time to time. I know that a Gillette psycho is just a tech, but I find it interesting for whatever reason.

A blog post I wrote may help you help your wife understand why you need to own (and keep buying) shaving products.... I hope it helps! Smile http://www.thebaldmanswife.com/3-steps-t...-buy-more/
