Los Jabones De Joserra

TommyCarioca, Marko, lukester  or anyone with an opinion - Greedos on my mind (or a base with duck fat and Rhassoul from LJBJ - does it make your skin a bit  numb when using it (almost a tingle)

I noticed Greedos is a different base than my other LJDJ soap Brihuega.  I get no tingle or numbness from Brihuega but plenty from Greedos.  I like Greedos scent better and I think the base is possibly better.  But I’m trying to see if anyone else has this or maybe I got a batch where the hydroxides ran a bit higher, changing the Ph a bit.  

Greedos:

INGREDIENTS.

Vegetable stearin. Beef tallow. Shea butter. Refined Duck Fat. Glycerin. Kokum butter. Jojoba oil. Coconut oil. Castor oil. Goat milk Wheat Germ Oil. Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Grape Seed Oil. Lanolin. Premium fragrance. Rhassoul. Water. Sodium hydroxide. Potassium hydroxide.


Brihuega:

Ingredients:  Beef Tallow, Vegetable stearine, shea butter, kokum butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil, castor oil, camellia oil, lanolin, glycerine, premium fragrance, green clay (bentonite), silk protein, spirulina, water, bland potash, 125g

While there are differences in the formulations, the differences are minor, especially  with respect to skin irritants. However, the Greedos does contain wheat germ oil. If you have Celiac and the wheat germ oil has not been properly refined to remove gluten proteins, then it might cause a problem. However, if it is properly refined, all gluten should have been eliminated. 

The other difference is the type of clay. Gredos uses Rhassoul, which is clay from Morocco. Brihuega uses Bentonite, which is common in many shaving soaps. Bentonite is claimed to be anti-inflammatory. Rhassoul clay is an exfoliant and clarifier, often used in face masks. 

My suspicion is that any irritation or numbing sensations you feel are related to the "premium fragrance". The scent notes are not clearly described, so I have no idea which scent notes might be responsible.

To be transparent- I have never used a Los Jabones De Joserra soap, so I am not communicating based on personal experience with the soap. My comments come from researching a potential issue. I have very sensitive skin and must avoid many specific scents: grapefruit, lemon, lime, clove, cinnamon, peppermint, etc. Thus, seeing the sensitivity issues with LJDJ Gredos peaked my curiosity.

Gredos gave myself and others that tried that tub a strong "tingle/uncomfortable/numb" feeling, maybe it was a bad puck maybe it was that formulation.  No problems with Brihuega.  None the less if I get a soap that makes me feel like I have a numb face, I'm not going back for seconds...

swellcat, I haven't tried From the Woods yet. I was thinking of ordering a tub yesterday, but then I read your review. If the fragrance truly smelled like a forest, I would have bought it. However, I don't need another floral scent in my collection. Thanks to your detailed description, I think I'll pass on this soap.

Oh, don't rule out the soap based on my lack of an olfactory vocabulary.  Did you notice the official scent description did not include a single floral?

Looking at a hypothetical soap box sent from Fort Worth to Honolulu, USPS Ground Advantage was suggested by PirateShip.  Do they offload from truck to boat and still regard it as "Ground"?

I've never had trouble lathering a Joserra soap, but that might be because I have some of the softest water on the planet (I could probably build a lather off a bowling ball). However, it did take me some time to figure out how to get the best results. Like JabonMan's Eufros soaps, Joserra's products require enormous amounts of water. The key is to add the water slowly, rather than all at once.

    At first, there's nothing impressive about the lather. It's flat and sticky. But if you keep working it and keep adding a little water from time to time, it will suddenly bloom into a fine goopy mess. It takes me five to ten minutes of dipping 'n whipping to create a thick, slick mayonnaisey foam. I prefer making the lather in my palm, where I can see and feel its quality as it comes together.

Ten minutes of lathering is . . . jarring . . . (pun unintended).

Apart from Brazilian rosewood which surely does not smell like rose I do not see anything floral in the notes pyramid.

Whatever floral you may be getting would still be coming from rosewood only but it's expensive and Jossera would not have been liberal with it as it would make the soap very expensive..

All I can visualize is an ambery ,woody ,earthy and little sweet scent rather than a green oakmossy one but floral ...no.

Traveler , Clean scent like Valobra and a little floral

Jags,
The fig based scent is wonderful. A favorite on hit steamy days in the summer. I reach for it very frequently. Pairs well with Diptyque Phylsikos.

The other summer LJDJ I like a lot is their dupe on Aventus [Cefiro] . Well done and does not feel like a synthetic mess like many of the artisans who have solid bases but the soaps smell like Bed Bath and Beyond .....
