In my limited experience, LASSCo soap explodes into lather, which could be the problem — you think you have loaded enough, when you actually have not. The advice already in the thread sounds good to me. Don’t start out with excessive water, swirl slowly and introduce more water gradually, and try to pick up as much product into the brush as possible (before it transforms into the plentiful lather that it seems to do so easily).

I enjoy shaving with LASSCo, but the post-shave feeling can be a bit on the dry side, as others have also remarked.
Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I could remedy that with using a balm I guess, but I don't like balms. I really prefer aftershave splashes. I wonder if there are any vendors that offer samples of SMN.

Both are very slick while soap is present, but is not so great in the residual slickness after.

Xpec is worth trying, SMN would be more of a im-out-of-other-things-to-try territory.

The residual slickness of both XPEC & SMN are off the charts for me. Since getting XPEC I'm not wanting to use anything else.

Have you tried Desmond's Barrow?

maybe if I get time tonight, I'll throw my camera into a tripod to shoot a quick video of a palm lather.

Thanks for the link. I have looked at it in the past and was just reminded why I didn't order any. This soap is loaded with butters and moisturizers which my oily skin doesn't desire and can lead to less than stellar shaves. Looks like a great alternative to those who like Mike's and the such.

Have you tried XPEC or SMN? Neither of these rely on tallow & are both consistently ranked among the best. I'd be curious to hear how they do for your skin.

SMN is on my list to try but it is a very expensive soap "to try" just to find out I might not like it. I don't doubt the in shave performance is very good like a lot of veggie soaps I've used. Shavedash.com is where I got mine. Got to warn you, though, enter that site at your own risk. Mr Shavedash - Jim - is one h**** of a spotter and displays quite a "vendor's acquisition disorder". You won't end up with only one sample in your cart!

Only reason I haven't put Topanga Fougere up is I love the scent. Anyone know of another Fougere that has a scent that is similar?

Wickham's Irish Fern. Along with Topanga, the one closest to Pen's English Fern. Tops the former in my book in terms of performance (by a longshot; then again I may need to work at my LASSCo technique) but the scent is not as strong.

The Topanga Fougere is one of my best performing soaps. It is slick as snot and has a wonderful post shave fee and the scent is IMHO the best Fougere out there. I use a teaspoon of warm water to bloom the soap while I'm in the shower. I add the bloom water to my lather bowl and load my brush for 25-30 seconds. The bloom water is not enough to create a full slick lather so I slowly add water and water until I have a rich yogurt like lather. But unfortunately, my experience is mine and not yours. Water could be an issue so you might try distilled water to see if that makes a difference. Good luck, with your lather.

Thanks halvor. Just when I thought I had my addiction to samples under control, you go and give me that link! LOL. Seriously though, thanks for the link. I am going to have to try some SMN now.
