Le Maurice Pass around

Can anyone give me a comparison of the 1, 1.2, and 1.4 gap against some popular razors such as the Blackbird?

I also have a Paradigm Diamondback, as a reference in case anyone has that to use as a point of comparison. I’ve got a CG Gen 1 Lvl 3 on the way (should be here Monday / Tuesday). I’d really like to order a Le Maurice as I love the aesthetic, but am unsure which gap to go with. After reading this thread, I’m thinking maybe the 1.2, but also rolling back and forth the idea of a 1.0 -OR- 1.4 in addition.

All the gaps lead you to almost the same efficiency. It's a fact that the exposure is the same on all the levels. It depends only by what you're used to, I mean the angle you would like to shave with. Both the Blackbird and the Diamondback are way more efficient. I do not suggest to buy the Maurice if you like those razors you mentioned. Maurice is definitely milder in both feeling and efficiency, a lot more.

Le Maurice is very different than the Blackbird.  I am not sure what razor to compare it to.  I don't have one, but some compare it to a Blutt.  

I participated in a passaround through a different forum, so I got to try several gaps.  Le Maurice is unique as it has the same 0.05mm exposure with each gap.  Augstin does this by making the baseplate wider as the gap increases.  The 1.2mm gap worked best for me in the passaround, so I bought that.  It shot up to my top tier razors, I love it!  If it helps for reference, I did not get along with the Blackbird.

If I remember correctly, the 1.2 was surprisingly efficient for how smooth it was. Nothing near boring, it was a great shaver. I haven't used a blackbird in awhile, so I can't comment on that, but it did not have the same blade feel and positive exposure. I could probably compare it closer to my CG gen 2 level 2 razor with a little less blade feel and similar efficiency.

The 1.4 is extremely efficient whilst feeling very safe. I tried the 1.2 on a passaround and remember wanting a bit more efficiency at the time. 1.4 seems to be the sweet spot but 1.6 and 1.8 are also possible.

I can use the 1.2 daily.  I like medium and medium-mild razors.

You can easily use the 1.8 daily. The exposure is the same for all the gaps! You won't feel more blade! It's very mild. It changes the way you shave only. For those who claim the pass around, I wanna remember that the geometry of the razor changed a bit, just look at the pictures! That's why the difference between the gaps. In my experience the Maurice does not cut close enough. It's pretty effective for sure, but you don't get that super close shave imho. I know each user has his own experience, but I guess that those who say 'extremely efficient' have not a thick stubble. I also wanna add that the Maurice shaves better the every other day instead on the daily basis.
Just my experience and opinion guys.

StBandicoot I can't really shave daily with any razor as my skin gets irritated. Even the most mild razors using two days in a row give me razor burn. The 1.2 was very comfortable using every other day though.

macroincensi I understand the exposure is the same through the gaps, but the larger gap will still be more efficient. It just won't be as large as a jump in efficiency/aggressiveness. I remember between the .8, 1.0, and 1.2 gaps there being pretty distinguishable differences in efficiency. There were quite a few members in the passaround that stated the 1.2 was surprisingly efficient. I do have pretty thick stubble, so feel I can comment on the efficiency. It's been awhile since I've used this razor, so I'm not willing to fight to the death on it, but I remember it being a good shaver. Also, has the geometry changed? I thought Augustus was keeping the geometry the same and just moving the locating pins and cleaning up the look.
