L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic: another one bites the dust?

That too bad, Plisson has become my go to synthetic brush. It is true, there are so many other option for a fraction of the price. However, you usually get what you paid for. The bristles are the one of the softest without the scratchiness like the inexpensive competitors. It doesn't have a glue bump which then let's the bristles reach their full potential. The handles are well made. The knots are centered and not canted like some of the other ones. Overall, plisson made some of the best. Too bad they have discontinued their brushed. Good thing I was able to acquire 3 of them while I could. Thanks for the heads up.

The RazoRock Plissoft brushes are not scratchy at all. Have you ever used one? While I don't have a Plisson to compare it to, I can't see spending 3-5x as much for basically the same brush. Plus, by all accounts I've read the Plisson is floppier. I'd rather have more backbone, but that's just personal preference I guess.

I have not tried the razorock plissoft as I haven't had the interest in getting one. I've tried other plisson type knot but they all fall short to the Plisson. After all they are trying to be like the original Plisson hints the name Plissoft. It's true, most say they lack backbone and I would agree but I would not say they are floppy. Personally I don't care for backbone as I hydrate my beard prior to shaving so backbone is irrelevant. Instead I prefer that silk touch of the Plisson. That's just my opinion YMMV... Just order one from Plisson direct. They are the manufacturer of the L'Occitane brush anyways. Plisson has plenty of handles to choose from, including wood handles.

I was talking about the Plisson branded ones - yes I was forgetting about the Maison du Barbier brushes, their second brand. Maybe those ones will be the way to go.

To all that are interested in the Plisson, L'Occitane did not make the Plisson and the Plisson is not discontinued. Only the L'Occitane was discontinued because of so many customer complaints of handle problems according to L'Occitane customer support when I spoke to them. If you want a Plisson then go to Plisson and buy one that has a good handle. The knot is the same size as the L'Occitane version made by Plisson.

As for the knock off versions, I guess it depends where you buy it because none of mine have high glue bumps or any other issues. I compared my Stirling Kong to my Plisson and there was no different other than the size. Of course for those who prefer the name brand then Plisson is the brush to buy.

The Maison du Barber is the one I bought and was referring to. I think I paid $43 shipped to the US and it came in a box with a plexiglass stand. That handle is not lather turned though; it is made in a mold and thus has the mold lines on each side. It's still a nice looking handle and feels good in the hand with a decent weight.

I have both the L'Ocittane branded plisson and the Maison du barber plisson brush. I prefer the look and feel of the Maison du barber, and as mentioned above comes with a stand. I have to agree they are well made.

I also own the Plissoft brush by IB and prefer it to both of the above. To me the fibres feel just as soft and the handle very nice. I like the fact that it is a larger knot size and the price point is spot on.

IMO the Plissoft brush is a good compromise between softness and backbone which I like in my synthetics.

yep. Stirling puts out a nice brush...I personally prefer a bigger handle myself and a slightly larger loft on my synthetics.
