Hi, I just got a sample of your Marshlands soap and it smells great. Is the vetiver smell from an essential oil? I think it only says fragrance on the ingredients list, so I'm wondering what the vetiver scent is derived from.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!  The vetiver is directly from essential oil in it, yes, as is the bergamot.  The oakmoss is synthetic, but there's very little in there.

Thanks for the clarification. Could you also tell me if the matching aftershave splash smells the same as the soap, as well as how the scent holds up in terms of longevity during a day's wear?

I use the exact same EO/FO blend for the splash, but it smells smokier than the soap (soap bases, especially my soap base, tend to stifle/mute/eat nuances of certain fragrances. Splashes don't

I'm trying to track down the tub of Champs de Lavande soap I ordered 3 weeks ago and the tracking tool on the confirmation email shows its currently in California. It seems like a circuitous way to get to where I am in Western Canada so I was wondering if thats the normal route shipments from your shop take to get to Canada or if maybe its gone astray. Even though things take a while to get to Canada from anywhere, 3 weeks is still a bit long. What do you think?

I emailed a reply, but in case Livechat's ticketing system failed me, the TL;DR is that I checked tracking via Canada Post and it has cleared customs and is scheduled for delivery on Friday.

I don't understand how I can get a package delivered to the UK in 5 business days and it still routinely takes 2-4 weeks to get a small parcel to Canada.

Your system works, I did get the messages from LiveChat, thanks. I agree with your comments, I think I've posted on DFS before on the subject of Canada Post, the place where packages go to die. I know that packages can travel great distances in a fraction of the time for no more money. I once ordered some coffee related items from Italian coffee company, Mauro. I placed the order online around noon on a Sunday and the packages (2) arrived on Wednesday morning, about 3 days. I assumed that Mauro must have a warehouse in Canada but when I looked at the tracking information it showed that the order was received at their Bologna, Italy facility and left there by midnight Sunday then went to Dresden, Heathrow, Winnipeg and finally Calgary. In 3 days. They didn't use the postal service, I think it was DSL. In any case it was impressive and only served to reaffirm my lack of faith in Canada Post who can't get a letter across the city in that time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I see it soon, I'm really loving your soap, thanks,

Phew, glad it made it there! I sent a package to Vietnam a while back. It made a pass through Thailand for some unknown reason...and it still took about the same time it took yours.

I've developed a theory about customs agents who work in clearing mail. I am positive that they have a "screw this guy" pile, where they throw random packages for a week or two.

That sounds like a plausible explanation. I also think they deliberately downgrade the service for standard mail so that you pony up for "expedited" service the next time. They call that pile the seasoning pile. Its what the airlines do - they can't make all of the "premium" service levels endlessly better and better so they just make the economy seating endlessly worse and worse so that the premium levels look that much better by comparison. Pretty soon I'll be sitting on the wing! That said, on my recent trip up to the Yukon we traveled on a small airline that serves some northern locales called Air North and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience. There were more dogs on the flight than I'm used to seeing and there were as many dogs in the airport in Whitehorse to meet the arriving dogs I'm sure but thats ok because I like dogs. The cabin crew were pleasant and cheerful and they fed us a choice of decent food for no extra charge and to top it off they served us fresh baked (warm) chocolate chip cookies that were delicious. They actually bake them on the plane. Never seen that before. So I guess not all airlines are the same - like Air Canada where their motto is " At Air Canada we're not happy until you're not happy."
