Knives, Swords, and Sharpened Steel

Do you sharpen with stones? This here is a 2000 and 4000 grit stone, a #140 diamond sharpener for flattening the stones, stone holder, and sink bridge. Takes about 15 min to sharpen the knife there.

I first started with an edge pro and while it worked well, I decided to sell it off in favor of sharpening free hand. A little learning curve but after that it's easy.

I sharpen my own knives and tools. Not as elaborate a setup as you use. A medium and a fine grit Arkansas stones.


Been hand sharpening since my Boyscout days.

I think a lot of people are afraid of it. But as you point out a small learning curve and you have a lifetime skill.

Yesterday my Daughter and her young man gave me the Ruger Accurate folding knife.
It is the sibling of the sheath knife version they gave me for Christmas and shown in my post directly above.



Folded it is 4.6 inches long.




The blade is 3.4 inches.

It has nice heft, is all stainless and has a liner lock. Very solid and sturdy when open.
I like it.

Very nice. I've never known of Ruger to produce anything that wasn't high quality.

Well another Christmas and some more knives from my daughter.

I got an SOG and a Ruger. Both are spring assisted opening with "flip" levers to flick the blade open. Both are amazingly quick and smooth.

Both closed.



And opened.

Christmas is a time for sharp things in the PhilNH5 household.

I these three items for Christmas.





The middle is a belt buckle knife "customized" with a duck charm. The knife is positioned by a steel pin and held in place by a magnet. It is easy to remove and open with one hand. My sister in law gave me this. It is available at https://www.beltbuckleknife.com/



The other two knives are fully automatic. These are legal in NH. The top one in the below picture is a Kershaw Launch 8. It is styled after an Italian stiletto. The blade comes to a super fine point. It is my new every day carry. My daughter gave me this.

The lower black knife is a Viper Tec Out The Front knife. You slide the silver knob forward a quarter inch and the blade springs straight out faster than the eye can see. Slide the lever back and the blade retracts in less than an eye blink. It is almost magic. This knife is very heavy. I assume the thick metal body is needed to hold the powerful springs that eject and retract the blade. Viper tec knives can be found at https://www.vipertecknives.com
