I like the smoothness of the D plate (the only one I've tried), but I just can't get a close enough shave with it. Understand, I'm a bit of an outlier, in that I place efficiency above all else, and am willing to live with "aggressive," or blade-forward, razors to get the extremely close, long-lasting shaves I expect. I'm very hopeful about the F plate.

My favorite DEs are the Charcoal Goods Level 3 open comb, PAA DOC Evo in stainless, Ikon Shavecraft Tech, Blackbird open comb and R41 2011.

I see what you mean. The charcoal Goods level 3 works great for me the other razors were not smooth enough but very aggressive.

Trying to figure out the plate solution like everyone else. I’ve typically been a vintage guy shaving with Slims/Fatboys set on 6 or 7. Started lower, but the longer I wetshave, the more it has crept up. From a blade gap perspective, a 6 is a C and a 7 is a D, but, as discussed, there’s a lot more that goes into the final feel of the shave than blade gap. Any advice?

If it helps at all a couple of guys in Canada I trust who have been shaving with prototypes since October and production Karve’s recently enjoy the D and F the most. The E was not much different in their use than the D. There is enough difference between the D and F for variety and whisker growth.

I bought C. Can anyone compare it with other razors?

I kind of agree with this synopsis now that I have been using the E and F plates for the last few weeks. I love all 3 of these plates but if I had to let one go, it would be the E plate because with the D and F, you really feel the difference...in a good way. It’s hard for me to feel much difference between the E and F plate. Even though I feel the difference when going from D to E, I really prefer the jump from D to F.
