To the above polishers: What are you using to polish?

I followed the instructions in my Overlander box, toothpaste with toothbrush. Nada results.

Toothpaste and a microfiber cloth will remove light patina. Make sure it is not the gel type toothpaste.

To polish like the beautiful examples in this thread takes more than toothpaste, Maas Concentrated Metal Cleaning & Polishing Creme is what I recommend.

I would experiment with polishing techniques on some old brass object before trying on the Karve.

Have a look on YouTube, lots of tutorials but avoid any "hacks" like baking soda, ketchup etc.

I am not sure if you have heard of Brasso. It's easily available here in India and does a wonderful job removing patina. You may check on Amazon for similar products.

Do this. I used to use a dremel with jewelers rogue but this is significantly easier and better results. It’s 25 bucks worth of material if you own a drill and you never have to pay an up charge for polished razors again. With the exception of H&S and Wolfman razors it’ll be as good as any razor polish version.

A week and a half of shaves in with the SS Overlander. Such a wonderful tool. I found the Brass Overlander heavy and the handle length too long.

This stainless is perfection in my use. 3.25’ handle. I tried the stainless Christopher Bradley barrel but really prefer the Overlander handle Chris created. Tolerances, threading everything is just top shelf.

I have never polished a razor but with firearm parts I often used a dremel with felt tip and Mothers Mag Polish. I believe the Flitz is pretty similar but have you ever tried Mothers?

I love the drill idea and imagine it’s a little faster then the dremel. This would polish feedramps and other gun parts to a mirror smooth finish very quickly but if there is any machine marks it needed 400-800-2000 grit sand paper first because the Mothers doesn’t really remove any material.

Ive used the dremel for years but this drill bit is faster, safer, and equal results. the dremel has a tendency to skip if not extremely careful causing scratches and dents. Also polishes a much smaller area taking longer. I would suggest giving it a try if you have a chance.

Hey just discovered the Overlander and had a few questions. Hopefully someone on here can help:

  1. My current daily driver is the Wolfman WR2. It sounds like the Overlander and the WR2 have the same goal. An efficient, but relatively mild shave with low blade feel. Can someone chime in how they are different and if you prefer one over the other? For added context I have a very low blade gap on my WR2 - a 0.75
  2. Is this razor seen as an upgrade to the Karve CB or a completely different razor? I've seen it described here as a CB "B" plate in terms of feel with a "D" plate in terms of efficiency. If that's true that definitely sounds like an upgrade to me!
  3. I'm thinking about getting the SS Overlander. I'd much prefer a Titanium Overlander, but not sure if Karve dropped Ti altogether. I remember they were working on it and I even signed up for a CB Titanium waiting list a few years ago. Has anyone heard about a Ti model in the works?

I had the Overlander brass but returned it.
It was at the very bottom as far as efficiency: I only do one pass WTG and the Overlander was a huge disappointment, as everyone says it's so efficient.

I'm perfectly happy with shave the Henson Mild delivers with one pass, the point being that I'm not into aggressive razors. The Overlander is far behind it, stroke for stroke.
Also the drag was significant.

I view the Overlander as simply a better razor than the Christopher Bradley. Yes, it’s very smooth and gentle but surprisingly efficient - especially against the grain. I find I can buff as much as I want with the Overlander and just always get a perfect shave with no irritation at all. I’d forget about titanium - he offers aluminum, brass, copper, and steel now, and I think that’s all there will ever be. It’s a superb razor - there is nothing better if you like a mild feeling but satisfyingly efficient shave.
