I don’t think he’ll ever reach the target. He’s done a great job, but I have bought and sold so many high end razors, and lost soooo much money in the process, that I’m reluctant to pledge. We still don’t know how it shaves, how aggressive it is. How durable the coating, how reliable the mechanics.

I have contacted Eric and he is going to send a prototype to Frank aka Dragonsbeard so he can do a comparison shave vs the original Toggle then I will try to compare different levels on the Janus to razors in my collection ie Fatboy,Slim and Charcoal Goods Level 1,2 & 3.
Thanks Mark for making the connection and I'm sure I'll have the razor by the end of the week at the latest. I'm really looking forward to comparing the Janus to the original Toggle at different settings. My plan is to do 3 Shave Offs and 1 review where I shave with it on it's own. I'll probably do that first to get a feel for it and then I'll do the 3 Shave Offs where I use low, medium and max settings and I think your idea of comparing it to some of the more well known DE's is a good idea.
I'll let you all know when it hits my den!

I've backed the project, and agree that it's not looking good. Honestly, it's been fun watching/reading the monthly newsletters. I started saving up for this razor long ago because I knew it was going to be pricey. It's certainly unlike any razor I currently have in my den. I think a lot of time and effort has been placed into updating and re-imagining the classic Gillette design. Following Janus and seeing how thoughtful Eric has been makes me hopeful things will come together for him and the razor.

Like all the folks on the Wolfman and CG wait list, folks that got a Raw, OneBlade, or anyone subscribed to their mail list?
Yeah like that, a very narrow base indeed. You talking about a niche segment, within a niche market.

I guess this question has been answered. Still hoping he can hit that goal though. From reading this forum and others I thought for sure it would sell just based on the whole, "Look at what I have in my SOTD photo and you don't," type of attentionwhores in the hobby. I guess even they aren't convinced.

Looking forward to a comparison (Janus toggle vs Gillette toggle/FB/slim) but unfortunately, as an individual who has participated in numerous Kickstarters, I think this one will not be successful for many reasons. Nevertheless a modern version of the Toggle is attractive. I wish him luck
Eric joined this forum 14 months ago. He made one post in this thread and spent a total of 54 minutes on this forum in that time. Opportunity lost, IMO and tells me a lot about where his head is.
Putting razors in the hands of DFS users is now many, many months too late. He had HIS target market cornered, right here in front of him too. There are a lot of guys here that love Toggle, myself include. There are lots of guys here that really know razors, I'm out here. There are lots of guys that throw crazy money at razors. Point is, I think he needed to have his thoughts on wetshaving in general challenged.
Further complicating the already complex makes no sense unless it just has to be done, even still, it's not a selling point.
The lube port doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons. The least of which is my eye sight and natural propensity to screw the unscrewable. Gillette didn't need one and they still work 60+ years later with no lube port. A lube port just creates more issues for a problem that arguably didn't exist to start with.
I don't like being Mr. Negative and have generally kept negative opinion to myself. It just seems like a missed opportunity is all. I really, really wanted to personally support it but at this point, the only reason I see to back it is if you speculate against it and hope production is limited to a very few...and you happen to end up with one....and secondary market jacks prices. But with a $500 buy in, that's a tall order. Just me. Sometimes you can over think and under listen yourself into a hole you can't get out of. I really hope this is not the end result here.

Hi James
I have to say without going into to much detail that I agree with you and your right in that he may have missed an opportunity. I'll also add after talking to him for quite some time. The man is really good at what he does and he has a full time job and a family that he is very devoted to and honestly he's basically a good man but that is one of the issues. He really doesn't understand marketing or how to bring this to market and Eric is somewhat of a dreamer who has been living his dream up till now but hasn't looked at the real task at hand and that's raising money to bring this razor to market. It's not going to happen on it's own. Your also right he should have been on here at least 2 or 3 times a week bringing people up to date on things to keep people's interest level up. Just in my couple of talks with him I'd say he could use a partner who has the skills he's missing. Again when you talk to someone and you see all of his motivation was with good honest intentions it's kind of sad and one of the reasons I offered to do this Shave Off as I'd like to see the man and his vision come true and to get this razor to market. The razor was surprisingly better than I thought it would be on my initial shave as you'll read about in the thread but I'm still curious to see how it compares to the Gillette Toggle which comes next in the 3 Shave Offs I'm going to do. You know me James I call it like I see it or in this case feel it. No partiality.
All the best!
Frank!
