The pics on the Kickstarter page show smooth Janus Razors. Did he do away with the knurling that was shown in the renderings?

It definitely needs knurling....and judging from the video, it needs a blade too! Smile

Kickstarter goal is $50,000 and they have 13 backers who kicked in $6000. They have until June 6 to complete the funding or else see you. The retail price for one of these razors is $625 which how many guys would be willing to pay. Even Wolfman razors when were first offered were less then half that price.

I'm not into Kickstarter, never been on it, so bear with the ignorance.

If he reaches the $50k goal, he is required to manufacture by Feb 2020?  He needs to sell roughly 100 pre-orders?
What happens if the $50k goal is not met? You get money refunded?
What does the extra $25 and $50 tiers get you? I don't see the advantage.

If he reaches $50k he gets the money with the expectation that he delivers the product eventually or does his best and fails to deliver. There is no requirement to deliver on time. If he does not reach his goal there is no money exchanged.

The tiers are limited to a certain number of backers. So if the cheapest one sells out you have to pay a bit more. In this case, those limited quantities are fancifully optimistic. I would be shocked if the first tier sells out. That’s not a dig at Janus; I just think 400 is going to be a reach.

Yes, the video on the Kickstarter page was really bad. When it shows him shaving and he makes a pass and there is nothing but lather left behind makes me fearful that this wouldn’t be near efficient enough for me. I understand it’s an adjustable, but for that price I’ll let someone else find out first.

Here are a couple excerpts from the KS Campaign concerning aesthetics and such....

Each selected setting, locked in place by a mechanical detent, has a specific Blade Exposure.

There are 9 settings to choose from; to accommodate uniqueness in skin sensitivity, hair coarseness, shaving skill, stubble length, and amount of time available to shave. Odds are high you will find a setting or settings that work for you!

The Janus Razor has 5 ergonomic improvements that will enhance your shaving technique!

The Janus Razor is longer + heavier than the Vintage Toggle razor. A heavier razor steadies the hand. Tools with longer handles are generally easier to use.

The center of mass is biased to the top (2/3 up); the Janus Razor is top heavy so that you don’t have to press hard for amazing results.

The Handle and Dial OD is bigger, and both have a machined texture pattern inspired by the Grand Tapisserie pattern of a watch dial for a sure grip in the wet.

The Janus Razor has tight-toleranced components interacting with each other to enable the different mechanisms. Periodic lubrication, like once or twice a year, through the lubrication port will help you keep your Janus Razor in tiptop shape.

There's more info on the KS page under the Campaign header. There are more fine details and 3D renderings to look at and read up on.

Eric said there will be a machined texture on the handle and the dial as was seen in the last update

Has he reached the 50K goal yet? I LOVE the razor/design, but a little too rich for my blood I guess. Hopefully it turns out to be great for those that get one.

Excellent presentation, the way every campaign should be.
