I have few things that I'd really consider pet peeves, but one is when I see someone who is enthusiastic about something getting dumped on by the "old guard." It's one reason I peruse reddit's wicked edge when I have a free moment (read: when I'm on the hopper). So many who are new and/or young and are just excited to be trying something that they see as cool and exciting, as opposed to the normal doldrums of shaving with a cart and foam. Why would you not help and encourage that person. Why rain on their parade and dampen their excitement, potentially pushing them away?

It does happen though, and not just on shaving forums. I've seen it on video game forums when I was younger. Sports forums, and Army/Defense Knowledge Online forums while I was still on active duty. Hell, I've even seen it from little ole ladies on soapmaking forums. No matter what the topic, it just like life. People try to form a pecking order and sometimes they feel the need to break out the ruler and have an internet pecker-measuring contest over everything. Just because it happens on shaving forums doesn't mean that shaving forums are a dying breed already. It just means that shaving forums are populated with real humans, and real humans can be jerks sometimes.

Just as a safety valve for this topic, I know of a forum where you can get out your pet peeves about shaving forums, without being moderated. It isnt really a forum for the mindless chit-chat about shaving. So yes, it is a forum, about forums. If anyone has an interest in it, PM me. It isnt set up to draw membership away from any one forum, but it exists so you can have your say without being chastised for it.

Freddy , Matsilainen , PM me and I will send you two a link too so you arent in the dark about the motives of that forum.

I hate to say it but ever straight razor forum I have seen holds gold dollar razors in a low esteem. Ive read it can take 4 hours for a person to actually get an edge on that blade. But these razors are capable of being made usable, and can be found sold on some forums in an actual condition that a person can use it.
Most straight razor forums will have a note at the top giving a list of razors and brands to avoid if a person wants something that is good to go from the start and for the long term. Nothing wrong with saying that a razor will be crappier then everything else on the market.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Gold Dollar, Gold Monkey, or Zy razor that a little information and effort can't fix. The steel is good and will take and hold a great edge.

The fit and finish is low end, but so is the fit and finish on a $100 Ralf Aust, which "they" tout as a fantastic introductory razor.

An hour with an experienced honer and a Gold Dollar is a great shaver, bar none.

The problem with a Gold Dollar is, they usually come up first in a search for a straight razor for a newbie. They sell them as "shave ready" but the edge they come with is horrid and will simply turn off a new straight shaver. At least an Aust comes with a usable edge.

ezlovan is right. Although, these guys don't just exist on forums, they are everywhere you turn, from the next-door neighbor leaning over the fence giving you unwanted and bad gardening tips, to the new-hire walking by in the office offering silly advice on how to do your job "better", to the guys who evaluate every purchase you make and tell you what you should have bought instead. Is anyone surprised that these ubiquitous knowers-of-all-things, who are almost always wrong, but absolutely never uncertain are also denizens of forums of all kinds? Indeed, any forum lacking some members with that unique blend of smug arrogance combined with abject ignorance would seem incomplete. If they haven't caused the demise of the world (so far,) they certainly won't be the demise of forums.

Uhhh.... I'm just happy to be here. I enjoy ya'lls company while I drivel on with new shave experiences and such. And you for the most part are polite when something runs "askew". I myself take it all in stride anymore. As I really can't take anyone seriously. Too much drama. Just enjoy the moment, learn something new and let stuff slide.
In other news.... Gillette has a new video on the "tube" showing how to shave your nether regions. Seriously. It can't be unseen. Lol

Well, the woman sure as hell don't want to hear me babbling on about this soap or that razor.  She just kind of looks at me like this.

Can we use that canned shave creme brush thingy to shave our thingy? I almost feel like singing Rocky's song from RHPS.
