If you could have only one $200ish double-edged safety razor

Gents,

I'm thinking about getting a premium stainless double edged safety razor. It seems like $200 plus/minus is the price point for most. I really don't know how to go about evaluating them. If you could have only one, what would it be?

Any evaluation suggestions would be welcome.

It's not stainless, but for me the easy answer is a Charcoal Goods open comb in antique brass. Every time.

Either BlackBird or Charcoal Goods (level 2 for me)

Not Stainless Steel but my Level 1 Charcoal Goods would be the razor of my choice. I have a Level 2 base plate set to arrive in the next few days, so that may change, although doubtful since I really like the level 1

My vote would be the Blackbird

Above The Tie razors are absolutely great and value for money. Thier Windsor razors even look premium

Stainless would be Timeless .68 scalloped or Blackbird. Both allow returns.

Non stainless would be charcoal level 2

Three different finishes to choose from (and more on the horizon). Stainless steel for now, a new material also on the horizon. Safety bar and open comb base plate available.

My recommendation for a beginner would be the polished safety bar version, but since you are a seasoned shaver, I’m sure you would get along with any version. (I haven’t found the difference between my SB machined finish and OC black oxide finish to be in any way significant. I thoroughly enjoy them both.)

Stainless would definitely be ATT Windsor H plate. Beautiful finish, smooth shaver with great efficiency. If it could be any metal, Hands down Charcoal Goods Dual comb level 2. The charcoal is a piece of art and with dual comb it can be a daily driver or easily take down 3 days growth
