I've shaved twice in the last decade.

Seriously. 2 weddings, one was my own.

Normally - no guard on the clippers once a week or so. I've had a beard for the last 14 months, and am ready for it to mostly go.

Should I start off with a cartridge just to get used to this again? I feel like its like riding a bike, but I've never ridden a unicycle.

I have available to me parker 91, 99, or merkur 34, 42

astra greens, gillette 7 yellows, am getting feathers.

My first DE, almost five years ago, was a Merkur 34C. If that option is available, it's a great gateway to the vast horizon of DE razors, in my experience. If you're at all like me, going from carts to the 34 will not be a difficult transition--like going from a Schwinn Stingray to a Schwinn Varsity.

If you have clippers then use that first if not then scissors will do the job just will take little longer. The 34 should be just right to get the hang of it and i would choose the gillette yellows since they are sharp and smooth

No need to start with a cartridge. I would just go straight to a DE if that’s what you plan on using in the long run. Just remember to use a light touch.

It's almost gone, now. Should have a batch of merkur showing up at my door today.

Kept the mustache length because why not. I can either do a pretty sweet van dyke, or a fu manchu. Whatever embarrasses my kids more.

As for blades, I’d go with the Astra Greens. With that light touch mentioned by Dayman and short strokes, you should do just fine.

Screw it! Just get a barber hot shave with a good straight razor. If you’re gonna go, go big!
