I'm not a fan of Derby blades...... But these just might change my thinking a bit.

I have never gotten along with the Derby DE blades. Never really gave me a good comfortable shave and always gave me slight irritation even with the mildest of razors or settings. To me they were sub-par and just not worth it. Until now that is......

The Derby Premium blade has been a pleasant surprise. I purchased 2 packs of 10 out of curiosity and had my first shave with them yesterday morning. First time out and a very nice, comfortable shave. The blade was very sharp, smooth and forgiving. Packaging and presentation was very classy with the all black motif and no wax on the inner wrapping. It was just the first shave with them, but I was impressed nonetheless. I'm looking forward to getting a few more shaves in on consistency and durability. But if these couple of packs work out, I just might put out the $10 greenbacks for a 100 pack.

That's a lot of catchy words on the label!

Ceramic, tungsten, platinum... Until I see adamantium I'm skeptical.


Seriously though. I've seen others praise these blades a few different times. They're intriguing. The price is impressive too. I looked them over on Italian Barber. I will have to get some one day too.

I actually like the original version, so I bought a tuck of the new Premium blades and for me they gave a worse shave. YMMV.

The Derbys in the green pack were very highly regarded 8-10 years ago. I got excellent shaves from them in a Merkur and Gillette Slim adjustable, but rather poor shaves when using them in an Edwin Jagger DE89.

Yes, they work for me well in a Schick Krona, but in a Tech are a tad rough. Go figure.

Same here. The normal Derby's didn't work for me as well, but the Premiums are good performers. Reminds me of Platinum Lux.

IMHO, comments like these illustrate one reason why traditional wetshaving is making such a big comeback. Prior to the last 10 years or so, guys had few blade choices. It would have been whatever blades were available in the local stores. Probably fewer than ten different blade types readily available to the average Joe, and likely much fewer. Fast forward to 2017, and we have around 100 different blades available at the click of a mouse. It is virtually certain that a traditional wetshaver will find blades that give him that shaving nirvana experience with a given razor. Add in quality shaving creams and soaps, also now widely available, and a little experimentation and we are all dialed in.

Wow, I was mistaken. It was not "fewer than 10 blade types" it was one or two blade types. Just like with cartridge razors today. No wonder a lot of people are getting improved shaves with safety razors.

I've tried the green derbys in two separate razors and have had bad results I'm still going to give them a shot with another two razors and see if it helps. I hate to give up on shave gear so quickly.

Honestly, when I started wet shaving, almost twelve years ago, the green Derby blades were the first to give me that "Ah ha!" moment when I realized how good a traditional wet shave could be. However, I began to find that the quality control just wasn't there and those blades became more hit or miss than I would have liked so I stopped using them. Blades aren't that expensive so, for me, it's not a case of giving up on shave gear so much as it's my face deserves better.
