And it seems the key is to ride the cap until I find the right angle. So, a high angle from the face. Have you found that too?

Which Parker open comb do you have?

I have a 24C. There is also a similar 26C with a different handle.

Parker recently released a version of the adjustable Variant razor with an open comb.

With the 24C, I concur with your assessment that a shallow blade angle (riding the cap), is the right way to go.
The 26C would be similar.

I do not know about the Variant OC since I do not have one, but the large rounded cap of the Variant should make it easy to find the right angle.
I do have a Variant with the scalloped bar. I use the cap to find the right angle.

I ordered the 63C with is the rose gold but same as the 24 or 26. I read your old review on another site and was impressed. Should be here in a few days.

The Parker OC design is quite efficient. Be careful when you first use it that you pair it with a mid-sharp blade. As you gain experience in finding the right shave angle, you can then start to move up to sharper blades. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, especially on the ATG pass.

I hope you enjoy it.

I prefer the Fatip OC to the Parker.
Smoother and less prone to bite.

I have both and I would agree with that. I don't use the Parker as often. It does, however, seem to be an angle thing with the Parker. You do have to kind of fiddle a little bit. It does shave better for me when I adjust my angle. It's not a bad razor, the Fatip does just work better for me personally. johnfly just take your time, be aware and you'll find the right angle for you. As RayClem mentioned I would definitely not use the sharpest blade you have for it,. A slightly milder blade can help tame an aggressive razor.

I was thinking I'll use 4 times used 7 O'clock Super Stainless. Around shave 4 is when they hit their stride. I think the Parker blades that come with the razor are pretty mild. My thanks to you and Ray, too.

In my DE blade evaluations, I rated the Parker blades 4.25 sharpness and 4.25 smoothness. The blades are made by Derby, but they are a lot sharper than Derby Extras which rated 3 sharpness, but not quite as sharp as Derby Platinums which rated 4.5 or the Derby Ustas which rated 4.75. The Gillette Super Stainless made in Russia rated 4, which is close to the Parker Premium blades. If you can use the Super Stainless, you should be able to use the Parker Premiums.

All you can do is try and see what works best for you. I actually do Like the Parker blades. If I'm not mistaken, based on what at RayClem has on his spreadsheet, they are quite likely rebranded derby blades. Though I might personally suspect that if they are rebranded Derby blades, I would think that they were the Derby Premium as I got really good shaves out of the Parker Premium. Good luck! Look forward to hearing about your experience.

Razor came early this am so I can do a shave. Looks nice, handle right at 3.75 and 4.0 overall.
