I still can’t quite fathom that i Coloniali was discontinued to begin with…
I’ve posted this same comment in other forums, but when it was discontinued no one wanted it. The remaining stock hung around for 9 months at regular prices on Amazon and a month or so longer at elevated prices. But you could buy refill pucks for $16-19 and the Rhubarb creams (same scent) for about the same. Apparently no one did very much.
When I made an Amazon order, I’d throw a refill or two in the cart, and occasionally a terracotta pot or balm. This went on as I’ve said, for many. many months. Same story for ABC hard soaps, you couldn’t give them away.
If I were an artisan looking at reproducing those sale numbers, I’d have a hard time convincing myself that a ‘run’ would sell enough to make it worth my while. If people didn’t buy the original after it was known to be discontinued, why would they buy a dupe? At least beyond one run?
I am in total agreement about the slickness and quality of the soap, and the balm is one of the best ever made, on par with ABC balms (and it doesn’t go bad). But the fact remains that the IC Mango/Rhubarb stuff just didn’t sell that well as far as I could tell.
Pre de Provence has a very similar lather and slickness if you want to experience it in an available base, but of course the scent is not the same. The company that makes PdP (PdP is a house brand of an American company) will make soaps for other people, so to me the logical choice is to get them to make a IC Mango scented version. It would be very close indeed.
