Homemade Aftershave Splash with Zoologist Civet

I just concocted my first homemade aftershave splash. Well, everything but the scent is homemade.

The mixture consists of Alcohol, Witch Hazel, Glycerin, Eucalyptus Oil, Aloe Vera Juice, Menthol, and Zoologist Civet for scent. I have a full bottle of Civet on the way and decided to use what was left of a sample in the home brew.

In my test application the feeling was great and the scent strength was near perfect. Tomorrow will tell how it feels throughout the day. In later batches I probably will adjust the amounts of menthol and other ingredients, maybe add some new ones too. Also, I will experiment with some essential oils to create my own ideal scent. This opens a whole new world of experimentation in the wonderful world of Wet Shaving. Love this hobby.

Too bad my arts and crafts skills are lacking, or the bottle would look just as good as the contents.

Well that's it for me. Hopefully this inspires others to dive into AS home brew and create matching scents to soaps without splashes.

Great job. It sounds interesting and all I can say is that a home brewed splash is very rewarding. I did mine not long ago with a similar formula.
I suggest you check the pH of your formula and try to adjust it between 5 and 6. You can do this with pH measuring stripes and some citric or lactic acid. You'll tell the difference.

Sample pack is great to pick scents before getting the big bottle. And they're great for home brews.

Well, after a few days of use (Wednesday night and Thursday) I'm impressed. It's given me a great post-shave feel every time, just as good as other splashes out there, and it's very moisturizing. The scent has some great staying power and it will make a great addition to my Civet Shave Soap. I will give it another 5-10 uses before I make a definitive decision on performance but it's looking good. I ventured out to the shops the other day in search of more ingredients for a new and improved batch. See below.

I stopped by my local health store recently and picked up some supplies. I then proceeded to make a new batch with Alcohol (SDA 40B), Witch Hazel, Vegetable Glycerin, Eucalyptus Oil, Liquid Aloe Vera (no refrigeration needed), Avocado Oil, Apricot Oil, Liquid Coconut Oil, and Castor Oil. I also picked up 12 essential oils and made my own accord with Frankincense, Sandalwood, Lime, Lemon, Pink Grapefruit, Lavender, Peppermint, and Cypress. I call it FrankinLime.
The scent is divine, at least to my nose. I then rubbed some on the skin and it's unbelievably soothing and highly moisturizing. I don't think you'd ever need a Balm with this even in winter but only time will tell. Like the first batch I want to get 5-10 uses in before I make a thorough review. Of course the specific amounts are my secret and when I get the recipe down I'll start sending samples out. Can't wait to make more. I'll be posting about this new batch when I get back from a much needed vacation. Very exciting. Have a great night.
