Hummingbird Pass around list update:

The razor has been recieved and is in the hands of boilerphan as I post this. It has been a lengthy process because of the current pandemic in this Nation and the United States Postal Service has not been immune to this viral health scourge that is running it’s course. Be patient Gents, it might be slow but, the razor will get to you. I’ve added Bullyson to the list.

First shave was nice. I used the .080" plate as I wanted to start with the mildest. Build quality is very nice, as expected from a CNC machined razor. There is some wear from the passaround, but it is still a very beautiful razor. The head is nimble, probably one of the smallest razor heads I've used. Its very thin as well. The blade tabs are quite exposed, which doesn't bother me. Soap used was Spearhead Seaforth Heather, lathered with a WW brush. A twice used Gillette Platinum was the blade of choice. The razor took down two days growth without issue and was very smooth. I had trouble getting under my nose, possibly due to the smaller gap and less exposure on this base plate. Other than that, no issues WTG or XTG. 6 hours in I have some stubble growing back. Im excited to see what the higher gap plates can do.

Today I jumped right to the 1.50 baseplate. Figured I know what the lowest gap baseplate shaved like, might as well jump to the highest! If it was too aggressive, I could always drop down. Glad to say that wasn't the case. For how large this gap is, it was a very smooth and efficient shave. Smoother than I expected after looking at the gap. Setup was the Hummingbird with the 1.50 SB baseplate, a new gillette platinum, and DG MOTI in milksteak. Two pass shave removed 3 days growth smoothly and efficiently. It is close in efficiency to my blackbird, but will need to shave with it a bit more to get a better idea. Regardless, it is very efficient. I had some slight irritation under my chin, but that was the only spot. Finished with alum and some HSSC unscented balm. 5 hours later my face is still smooth as can be.

Shaved off one days growth this morning with the same setup. Had a little more irritation, so I think the 1.50 is too much to be a daily shaver. Still, a very close shave and no blood. I should have left it at one pass, but went for two and suffered. Ill try the 1.30 tomorrow, and prep the razor to be sent on! Ketotrader could you please PM me your info?

Another shave with one days growth this morning. Dropped to the 1.30 SB plate. This one seems to be the ticket! Smoother than the 1.50 while still remaining plenty efficient. Comfortable two pass shave, 3rd use of a gillette platinum. ZM The Explorer was the soap of choice. Very minimal alum burn although I did get one small weeper on my neck. Finished up with some ZM matching balm, and my face feels great. 6 hours later and there is minor stubble growing back. Ill try one of the OC plates tomorrow, then sanitize and ship it off.

Last shave was with the 1.10 OC plate. First Line Shave Kituwah was the soap of choice, along with a gillette platinum on it's 4th use. I only did one pass since I need to shave again in under 24 hours for work and didn't want to irritate my face too much. The shave was smooth and efficient, although I did suffer one small weeper on my neck and some alum burn on the lower half of my face. OC must have not been meant for me! Slightly more blade feel than the 1.30 SB, but left more irritation and I honestly think it was less efficient.

Some quick final thoughts. The quality of this razor is great. Tolerances are tight as expected from a CNC machined razor, although threading the handle on seemed a bit looser compared to other high end razors. Doesn’t cause any issues whatsoever, just an observation. I love the small head and don't mind exposed blade tabs so I got along with it great. All plates were very smooth, with the 1.30 being my favorite. For how efficient it was, the 1.50 was very smooth and great for multiple days growth. Unfortunately the OC plate wasn't as comfortable, but I usually don't get along with OC razors. The handle was a good size and the knurling provided great grip while still being comfortable. The balance of the razor was neutral and it did not seem to be head or handle heavy. The whole razor itself was quite light and a very comfortable weight. Although this specific razor has some abuse from being passed around, I'm sure the finishing is usually great. For the price, I think its definately a bargain! Around $80 if I remember correctly. I enjoyed this razor enough, that I do plan on purchasing one. The razor is sanitized and sent on its way to the next participant. Thank you GlazedBoker for putting on the passaround, and to Homelikeshaving for including this forum in passarounds! I apologize if I missed anyone else involved.
