High end razors

I abstain from commenting, not because I'm avoiding conflict, nor because I am anticipating backlash...anyone that knows me knows those 2 things don't bother me.

I simply have never used a high-end DE razor, so I have no opinion.

Now...I have a couple of straights that I would consider high-end, but only by my own definition, not by consensus. I sold the only one that was truly considered "high end"...Dubl Duck Wonderedge just didn't fit with my mismatched accumulation of reconstituted tools, and deserved a seat amongst giants.

I have middle class tastes and a no class budget...

You might consider the paradigm titanium razor. It is new. I have never used it. It has good reviews. It costs $395.

The "high end" razor that intrigues me most is the new stainless adjustable from razor emporium. The Ambassador.

What? Nobody mentioned BBS-1 yet ?

You can always buy highly expensive razor and pay 300-500 bucks for it and then a year later from every day using it you might see a small plating area has been rubbed off, or that perfect polish is also gone and all of a sudden you find your self shouting blasphemy! LOL

Or or, you can do what I did, still buy a high end gear, most likely spend the same amount of money,enjoy a variety of gear and don't feel guilty if you leave a blemish on it. That's why my most expensive razors are:

- SS Rockwell 6S - $80
- SS Supply Provision 3 plates - $75
- SS Razorock Wunderbar - $130
- SS Razorock Hawk - $60
- SS Rockwell Model T ( not ownership and no cost known)

- Total: $345 for all SS razors who actually look great and proven to be great shavers and offer variety of different blade types, or you can always splurge $400 for a titanium Paradigm razor if that's what rocks your boat... Your choice after all.

Best shaver for me is the Blackbird. I have an uber growth on steroids though, and it's only the Blackbird that keeps me looking presentable until my next shave. I find it to be super efficient and relatively smooth for its performance.



Best overall value + performance, and one I'd recommend over and over, Rockwell 6s.

I hear you, bro. I'm actually returning to that kind of thinking. I spent too much on this hobby, so much so it's dampened my enjoyment and thrill . I'm now learning to simply enjoy what I have and accepting the idea that I just can't buy everything. It will drive me nuts..

I still get tempted from time to time, and I suppose I'll still make a few special purchases here and there; but the days where I just wolf down everything that gets the spotlight is long gone.

I prefer my Above the Tie slant over the Wolfman OC and SB razors I owned. I believe it is an underrated razor at this point.

I'm very intrigued by the Rockwell as well. I may pick up the 6c to get a sense of the design.

To me, the design is the most important thing-- does the design enable the razor to perform well and feel comfortable in my hand? If works well and it comes in a durable material, that's ideal.

Ive basically sold off 95% of my "shave den. I now have one razor.....3 soaps....one cream and one balm. As much as i love buying new shaving gear, i am happy with what i have. All i want is one nice razor

Some readily available SS DE recommendations:

1.  Blackland Blackbird CC:  This razor has a very different shave feel/look.  It gives excellent results with less irritation than any razor I've used.  Amazing...
2.  Timeless 0.68 SB:  Pimp my razor; absolutely beautiful finish work.  Excellent shaver.....
3.  ATT M1:  A classic.  Great shaver and the lowest maintenance finish IMHO.  Functional art....

All these razors are in the $185.00 price range new.  Your great great grandchildren will be using them long after you are gone, and they'll still look great....
